She tried every doctor in ten miles of here; none did her any good. She decided to try your medi cine. The first bottle she took improved her very much. She took six bottles and it made a permanent cure of her. I had two colored girls living with me, both of whom had scrofula very bad. I recommended your med icine to them. By its use they are now both well. I can highly recommend your medicine as a sure cure for scrofula and a good blood purifier. Very respectfully, MRS. G. W. PARKER. Wakefield, N. C, Jan. 9, 1904. Into the Industrial and Mill Centers of the South One of the Most Absorb ing Topics at Columbia. The last of the Charlotte delega tion to the Interstate Convention re turned from Columbia last night. There were 139 delegates in at tendance representing 29 associations. The addresses were of a high order giving larger conceptions of the mag nitude and importance of the asso ciation movement and calling for more unselfish devotion to the great object of the same. Three addresses by President Scherer, of Newberry College, on "Being a Christian," and the one by Bishop Guerry, on "The Expulsive Power of a New Affec tion," were especially good. The address by President Glasgow, of the Charlotte Association, at the luncheon Friday was greatly enjoyed and admired. The Woman's Auxiliary provided a bountiful repast of most palatable character on this occasion. The story of the development of the association movement in the In dustrial field was perhaps of more interest to the delegates than any other. ' The invitation to hold the next convention in Charlotte was cordially v v.i v u uini liic jjiuapcuL ui it visit R. C. Norfleet, of Winston-Salem, and President F. P. Venable, of the Uni versity of North Carolina, are new members of the committee. A new plan was introduced at the closing session Sunday night by the election of the officers for the next convention: This will give those who will be responsible for conducting the program of the next convention an opportunity to become familiar with the same beforehand and add largely to their effectiveness. The conference of cotton manufac turers at the Colonial Hotel the day before the convention was quite suc cessful. Mr. Lewis W. Parker and Mr. Thomas F. Parker, of Greenville, S. C; Mr. D. A. Tompkins, of Char lotte, and Mr. August Kohn, of Co lumbia, were among the speakers. That the Young Men's Christian As sociation at Monaghan Mills is a suc cess was acknowledged by all and Mr. Lewis Parker expressed the con viction that the time was coming when all mills of consequence would have such associations and that they would well repay the mills as a business investment as well as by contributing to the welfare of the jaiill operatives. What is more beautiful than a matri monial alliance between a royal family and a royal flush? Charleston News and Courier. NEPHRITIS What do physicians call kidney trouble? Nephritis. What does Nephritis mean? Inflammation of the kidneys. Is there any specific for inflamma tion of the kidneys? Up to the discovery of Fulton's Re nal Compound there was nothing known to physicians or pharmacists that would reduce Renal (kiduey) in flammation. What then have physicians given in chronic disease? . Having nothing for Renal inflamma tion they gave up trying to reach the kidneys and considered i. incurable as the books say, and treated the heart and other symptoms. Then other than Fulton's Renal Compound there is no real kidney spe cific? There is nothing else known that will reduce kidney inflammation in any of its stages, either first or last. But many kidney troubled people re cover? Because it commonly cets well at first. But if it does not it passes into the second stage that was incurable up to the discovery of this compound, and that is the reason the kidney deaths have now reached 170 per day. Kidney disease is both stages is now curable by this compound in about 87 per cent of all cases. Literature mailed free. JOHN J. FULTON CO. Oakland, Ca. Woodall & Sheppard are our sole local agents. Ask for Bi-Monthly Bul letin of late recoveries t W. H. C. BARK LEY, Prop. PREACHERS MAKE APPEAL Ministerial Association of Mecklenburg Working For Prohibition.' The Ministerial Association of Meck lenburg county met this morning and the following strong appeal was adopted and signed by the ministers present: We. the undersigned ministers of Mecklenburg county do unite in the following appeal to all the good people of the county: A Great Opportunity. A great opportunity has come to us. After many years of untiring effort on the part of many earnest men and women we now have the privilege of voting out from the whole state of Xorth Carolina the legalized saloon, dispensary and distillery. It is an op portunity and a cause sufficient to move to heroic action every man that seeks the good of his fellows. Not a Party Question. This is not a Question of partisan politics but a great moral issue. It is the saloon with all its evil effects against the home. Prominent men of all parties endorse and support the proposed law, and are actively engaged in this battle against the saloon. Settling the Question. Let the good people of Mecklenburg county turn out en masse. A light vote means the recurrence of this con flict, but an overwhelming majority settles the o.uestion. We are confident of success, but will require a hard fight against a foe which in its death strug gle is leaving nothing undone day or night for the accomplishment of its purpose. Xo roan true to his home and its best interests can afford to withhold his vote against the saloons on the 2Cth of May. The Effect of the Law. One effect of this as a state law will be to prevent whiskey towns in Xorth Carolina from readily furnishing whis key for surrounding prohibition terri tory and thus bringing into disrepute all prohibitory laws. Further, it will help maintain a fundamental principle of our government, viz., the right of the majority to rule. Our Appeal. We. as ministers of the gospel, do appeal to you to vote for the cause of good morals and civic righteousness. Organize for the battle. Distribute suitable literature, which you can get free from the Anti-Saloon League of Charlotte. Do personal work. Pray for the cause of righteousness, and vote as you pray. A big time is ex pected. Germany's Cotton Industries Last Year. Consul-General Richard Guenther, of Frankfort, advises that the last year was a busy and profitable one for Ger man manufacturers working up cotton, according to the following brief sta tistics: Germany imported last year 536,823 metric tons of cotton, of which 79, 678 tons were reshipped to other coun tries. This exceeded the imports in 1906 by 89,378 tons. The German cotton spinneries were short of operatives and could not sup ply the increased demand. The im portation of cotton-made foreign yarns by Germany in 1907 amounted to 40,100 tons against only 22,284 tons in 1906, thus almost doubling. Germany's cotton-weaving factories did not work as profitably as did the spinneries. The general aecune m business during the latter half of last vear affected the year's trade adverse ly. Still the exportation of German woven cotton goods in 1907 aggregated 56,618 tons, an increase of about 763 tons over the preceding year. APRIL. Shorts covered freely and after opening quietly at about the same level as the close yesterday the active options advanced. July touching 974 and May 9.70 and October 9.56. There was reported good demand for spots with the country not selling and good cotton scarce. Predictions of increase are being made. The steadiness of spots checked selling for short account. We look for rallies from time to time in this "market and believe cotton should be bought on all fair declines. J. S. BACHE & CO, Hayward & Clarks Cotton Letter. New Orleans, La., March 31. Trad ing in contracts is at a standstill. Each faction appears waiting for something decisive to turn up on which the re sume operations. The fact that the bears at present have practically no opposition and yet are not pushing their cause seems proof enough that there is something deterring moral conveyed by the present ronge of prices. The steadiness of May during the past few days in New York is also being closely scrutinized. There are persistent rumors that since the last liquidation of speculative holdings the leading spot houses have gained full control of the stock in that market. This control is not likely to be used on the bear side. Liverpool is steady but gives no well defined encourage ment to bulls. The predictions of bad weather in the belt did not materialize. Generally cloudy weather prevailed during the past 36 hours. Some few very light showers occurred at scat tered points in the north and west. Forecast are for generally fair weath er. Futures here are steady around opening figures, trading and fluctua tions very narrow. Spot brokers more inquiry this morning. Prices steadier. HAYWARD & CLARK. Morehead & Co.'s Cotton. Letter. New York, March 31. There was a steadiness of undertone at the opening, but not much disposition to trade. Ca bles were a shade better than expected in today's futures. Spot business was dull and local bulls found little encouragement. About all results were discouraging to brokers. Early trading here was dull and fea tureless. After a while some few buy ing orders caused a little change in prices, but it was not enough to attract. much attention. From the belt came report of favor- able weather. Spot demand was reported some bet ter, but business was still restricted and there was a disposition to await developments.
