The features of the season. REVIVAL AT CALVARY worth Land Company, by the Charlotte Sign Works, on the side of Mr. Clin ton Mayer's drug store at the corner of Sixth and Tryon streets. It represents a house standing on the fine property of this company, while the city of Charlotte looms up in the distance. Its spires and steeples are distinctly recognizable. The dome of the Presbyterian college, the up heaving shoulders of the sky-scraper, the steeples of the First Presbyterian and Tryon street Methodist churches ire distinctly recognizable. Mr. Jim Wadsworth said today in speaking about the picture: "There are eight or t-t-t-t-t-en bu bucketsfull of c-c-clouds in the p-p-pic-ture!" It is coming out of the canvass like a peach-tree in spring time. The painter is Mr. Bond, a young man who has the artistic talent in high degree. He has a veritable moving picture show audience all the time, though he charges no admis sion. Indeed, it is a moving picture show, the cinematograph running from out of Mr. Bond's brainworks on to the canvass. The audience is cer tainly appreciative, judging from its . comments on the work of art. A Mr. Pickens Preaches on Daniel's Pur pose Character Building. Rev. C. M. J. H. Bloethe, promises to do aj better work than ever before in rech- ing the unreached. The work at pres ent is hampered by lack of funds and a strong effort is therefore to be made which, it is hoped, will be fully successful. The scheme is to raise $,100 for the; summer s expenses, and the simple method by which it is to be done is explained in the following petition which Capt. Blothe and his assistants are now circulation: "We the undersigned citizens of Charlotte, each promise to pay the lo cal Salvation Army corps the sum of $10, provided they are successful in raising by this means the balance) needed to clear themselves of debt and help them to carry on the work dur ing the summer. Com panions were against him. Yet he re mained true to God. The secret of his fidelity was evidently to be found in the home and the character early found there. The home was emphasized as being the most divine institution upon earth. There was a large number of young people present at the servio, and the closing thought that Daniel's strength of character could be accounted for only by his decision in youth was for cibly impressed upon their minds. There was one decision at the close of the service. Mr. Pikens will prech this evening at 3:30 and again tonight at 8 p. m. Seng service commences at 7:40. The Royal's Attraction. Manager Harris, of the Royal, is offering a beautifully hand-colored film today, entitled, "Pulcinella." The that might make a division by evenss picture tells the story of an interest ing romance. The film is 1,200 feet long. Mrs. Thomas S. Franklin returned home today after spending several days in Statesville, the guest of Mrs Earl S. Pegram. Mr. Franklin also came home today. He has been in the north on a business trip. Aw, make me one!" exclaimed a man with a-bachelor-because-I-cant-help-it face on him. Then the artist planted him a little spruce pine tree in the yard. Further off, between the house and town there is a big green grove, and this moved Mr. Roberts, who had come over from Wadsworth's stables, to remark: "These forestry fellows ought to hire that man. He can make trees grow quick." "I see he's got the sky-scraper up a-ready," said another man. "What's that white splotch left for out there in the middle of the picture?" inquired another observer. "He's going to put a fish pond there," came the reply from still another man. "Well he'd better not," said No. 1," because Heriot Clarkson will have it drained inside of 24 hours!" The one thing lacking is the dome of the new Baptist Church. That ought to be got in the skyline somewhere. METHODIST LAYMEN. Mr. M. E. Shirtz, of Newark, N. Y., representing the S. E. Add 2 table spoons Golden Glory Cooking Oil and 1-2 teaspoon salt. Boil un til thoroughly tender. Drain off the juice. Add 1 tablespoon Golden Glory Cooking Oil Salt and pepper to taste. The Southern palate calls for fresh string beans and kindred vegetables cooked until limp with bacon. As canned vegeta bles are already partilly cooked, it is not possible to properly cook them with bacon to get its oil and flavor without cook ing the vegetables to pieces. Cooking them as above with Golden Glory Cooking Oil imparts just the right flavor, and renders them just as whole some and palatable as fresh veg etables. As the day wore on and no signs appeared of any distressed cotton for sale the market rallied back to the highest of the day. After the severe decline we have had of over 300 points from the top prices it would seem that a respect able rally of at least forty points was due over the extended holiday of 3 days now approaching. Spots are holding remarkably well in the face of the decline in the future market, but the bears are as confident as ever and stand ready to sell on the advances. CARPENTER, BAG GOT &CO. Mr. V. M.
