Pharmacy, charging them with viola
tion of the prohibition law, in selling
a case of champagne qn a prescription
given Mr. R. R. Key holds, by Dr. Ar
thur T. Pritchard. Much interest has
been aroused, owing to the prominence
of the parties involved, Mr. Reynolds
being a well-known -young lawyer and
a brother of Police . Judge Reynolds.
Dr. Pritchard is a prominent physician
and son of Federal Judge J. C. Pritch
ard, while Mr. Roo3hstein, the proprie
tor of the Ashcville Pharmacy is also
manager of the opera hcu:-.e.
It is alleged that Mr. Reynolds ap
plied to Dr. Pritchard for medical ad
vice, and was given a prescription for
a bottle of wine, but upon Mr. Rey
nolds' suggestion that it would bo
cheaer for him to buy wine in larger
quantities, the prescription was made
to read for one case of wine. This
prescription was taken by Mr. Rey
nolds to the Asheville Pharmacy, at
which place he obtained a case of
champagne. It-is alleged that this case
was subsequently taken to the Battery
Park Hotel for the use of Mr. Rejnolds
and a party cf friends at a social gath
ering. City Detective Jordan, learning of
the facts, soon had sufficient evidence
to lay the matter before Solicitor Mark
W. Brown, and that official sent in
dictments to the grand jury.
The circumstances.; oh which the in
dictments were returned do not seem
to be Quite clear, as the law allows
liquor to be sold on the prescription
cf a practicing physician.
