Fve Pieventwn Asso. To Meet (From Salisbury Post.) The North Carolina Fire Prevention Association is called to meet in Salisbury Wednesday, February 2lst. This is an organization composea of the special agents and field men rep resenting the different insurance com panies writing fire insurance in North Carolina, and has for its purpose the prevention of fires. Associations ot like character and purposes are op erating in nearly every state of the union. The North Carolina Association in spects one town in the state eacn month, inquiring into the construction and care of each building, other than tho dwellings. They also inspect tne water works and fire department with the view of indicating how each can be improved, and outlining the bene fit ; that will accrue to the puhiic in the way of reduced cost of insurance, if those suggestions are carried into effect. The organization claims iu havp nothing to do with the making or maintaining of rates, at the same time offers the assurance that if the nre waste can be reduced the fire rate must of necessity be decreased. They claim to treat with the public in an advisory spirit only, pointing out de fects In buildings that can be reme died at insignificant cost, such as : u hrinerinsr flues ud to a reasonaDie i standard, removing trash, oily waste, wooden spitoons from the premises, putting tin under the stove, the ab sence of which can be readily un derstood af fire breeders. This organization is putting forth every effort looking to educating the public along the lines of building to a better standard, keeping their premises clean, and other things that are calculated to reduce the fire waste of North Carolina. They claim they can accomplish little without the hear ty co-operation of the public in this way the campaign is one of publicity and education. The question appeals to us, as we believe it should to every citizen of Salisbury and Rowan county, as well as the &tate of North Carolina, looking to upbuilding our state and producing conditions whereby the fire insurance tax, which has come to be quite a burden, can be reduced.
