C. Grid Season Opens Slow I'hc second seascii in the annals of Colleges Center sports opened its doors last Wednesday night when "Footsie" and his children ran over everyone in Bailey Stadium except the officials. The Clinton referees noticed that Condor was too tough to be put out hy the defending ball club so out he went on a charge of tackling an opponent too hard. .M- though this wasn't the official charge, Taylor and Woods could find no other reason. I hope Coach “liars" gets an edition of the Charlotte New*. October 17. to read my article "Crime Does Pay” and I would also like j to say that if at any time he would like to play us on our own home grounds. I'll speak for the team when I say. “\\ e're ready.” | Schedule For 1947 Fully aware of the obstacles in his way, Coach "Footsie” Woods hopes to have a fair sized crowd at the home games which are to be played in the Memorial Stadium. After the game with Presbyterian’s J. V. team, comes the Catawba College B string, which is to be played in Salisbury, N. C., Thursday night, October 23. The "Owls” play on home ground once again, here they meet the J. V.’s here in Memorial Stadium, Saturday night November 1. at 8 :()0. On the road once again. Woods, Taylor and Co. go to Hamlet. N'. C., Saturday night, November 8, to play the Hamlet All Stars. The “Owls” play on home ground once again, here they meet the the Bee's of Applachin State Teacher's College the following night, No vember 12, at 8:00 P. M. in Memorial Stadium The last game for the College Center with the Brooklyn Caysee .All Stars, is to be played in the Turkey Bowl on November 27, at Columbia, S. C. There is an open date for then which will probably be a return game on our own stamping grounds with either Catawba or P. C. For the information of those who don't already know, Hillard Knight wrote the last “Owl’s F^ye,” and I would like to thank him on his fine job. Speaking of Hillard, there’s a very good sports article of his in this paper that everyone should read. Coach Woods is still looking for more turnouts for the scjuad. "Footsie” has also asked for some field managers. Fred Motley is now field manager, and yours truly is handling the business end for the Owls. ByPresl)yJ.V’s. Penalties Hold ‘‘Owls” To 33-19 Upset I,lick played the odus last Wed nesday night, when C. C. U. X. C. went down in defeat v33-19 to the Presbyterian Junior Varsity squad. The ‘‘Owls" met the "Blue Stock ing” J. V.’s on the water-soaked Bailey vStadium in Clinton. S. C. FIRST QUARTER: Althougli the J. V.’s were favored, the first quarter clianged the minds of both teams and coaches. C. C. elected to receive, and “(ioat” Davis took the ball on his eight and drove back to his own eighteen. On the first play of the ball game, Davis went around the left side of his line for a 82 yard sprint, which was the longest run of the game. The extra point was blocked and C. C. led the game 6-0. However, the Owls were not victorious for long; for on the second play after the kickoff to the Blue Stockings, Flemming connected with a pass to Left Half back Glenn Allan who dodged Ad kins and Davis and rolled over to tie the score 6-6. The extra point was wide. The J. V.’s kicked-off again and Hillard Knight started the ball rolling for the Owds by re turning the kick from his own 25 to the 50. Little James Mock who substituted for Barnett took over and drove way into Presbyterian territory only to be stopped by 35 (Continued on Page 2) Entertainment A program of special interest and entertainment, information concern ing which have been held with greatest secrecy from this paper, w'ill be ])resented. A “Master-of- Ceremonies” will preside over the ])rogram. Election Of greatest importance, will be an election of some candidates to special offices. This election requires a quorum of students so that it makes it necessary for all oi the students to attend the meeting. Enjoyment It has been announced by Jim Taylor, Assistant Athletic Director and director of the “special surprise assembly”, that a program which all of the students will enjoy has been arranged for this meeting. Emphasis The “special assembly head” has emphasised the necessity of all the college students’ attending the meeting by the election of candi dates to special offices, the given away of prizes, and the entertain ment to be presented. Easement In order to relieve some oi the students minds, this paper has learned through the ‘‘C. C. grape vine” that a band will probably render a program of si)ecial music, that cheerleaders w'lTI be present, and that a formal introduction of the football team will be made. The facts relating to the duties of the “Master-of-Ceremonies” have not ])een learned. Rumors circulating say that the program will have all the aspects of a l)ig “pep-meeting”. SUBSCRIBE!!
