On this the opening of the first
year of the Charlotte College under the
direction of the City School Board of
Charlotte, we v/elcome all students, old
and nev:. For three years the Charlotte
College Center has been administered by
the Directorate of Extension of the Uni
versity of North Carolina. This our
first year us an independent college, v/e
plan to go forward with the help of the
faculty and student body. V.'e are indeed
proud of the students, the faculty, and
the achievements of our college up to
this point and hopeful for even greater
development for the future,
V.'e hope that your school year will
be successful and pleasant and that you
will come to love your college and as
sume your part in building its future,

new first-year students at the Charlotte
College for its first year of operation
under the Board of Education of the City
of Charlotte, Vfe welcome back for a se
cond year those who were enrolled last
year at the College Center. The Board of
Education is keenly interested in the
College and in all of its students. V*e
have hopes of building an important insti
tution here, one that will be an increas
ingly outstanding credit to Mecklenburg
County and this section, lie wish for
each one of you a pleasant, profitable
and successful year. For evcrj’one who
can, v/c hope that two years at Charlotte
College v/ill form the basis for comple
tion of your college career at some other
institution of higher Ifarning. If you
cannot go on, we believe that tv/o years
spent here can be of inestimable value
in making you a better citiarn, helping
you to enjoy more thingwi in th; years

OPENING EXERCISES
The opening exercises of Charlotte College v;ill be held on September 20, 1949
at 8 o'clock in the evening in the Central High School Auditoriion iiiss Bonnie E.
Cone has announced.
Presiding will be Dr, E. H. Garinger, The Reverend Herbert Spaugh will give
the invocation, and Richard Bov/ard will render the vocal selection, "The Lord Is My
Light," Greetings from the city of Charlotte v/ill be given by Mayor Victor Shaw,
Ifr. Hurrey Atkins will introduce the speaker J'Ir. Clyde Erwin, who is State Superin
tendent of Public Instruction, After I'.Ir. Envin's speech, the members of the Char
lotte College faculty will be introduced.
