Students, may we present Miss Isabel Bradford, B. S. in Commerce, class of ’49, University of North Car olina. TiVhen Charlotte College Center, U. N. C. opened wide its doors to G. I.'s in the Fall of 1946, "Izzy" was right on the top step, waving an eligibility certificate representing three long years in Uncle Sam’s Navy. She had earned the training, '.nd knev; exactly what she v^antcd to use it for. Izzy had been a clerical worker v.dth the Navy and had v;orked in an office. lazy was also an office worker in Ci\'ilian life, and nil in all she had spent quite a few hours in and around various of fices. Izzy had seen a lot of business, heard a lot of business, learned a lot of business, and the sum total of y/hat she had seen, heard, and learned left Izzy v/ith ono burning conviction - that she could learn ^iust is much about bus iness as some other people she knev/, and then maybe she could put that knov;ledge to better use. "Them" was Izzy’s senti ments, and she believed in them so much that, after five quarters at CCUNC, she v/as ready to enter the University at Chapel Hill as a full-fledged Junior. Not only had she completed her v;ork at CC ono quarter sooner than is normally required to complete junior college work, but she had also m.anaged to main tain a Dean's list standing during that timio, vAiilo working at TiVar Assets Ad ministration on the side. Remembering Izzy from those days, your reporter re calls tho way la Bradford turned the days into nights, and vice versa, attending classes all evening, and proceeding homeward to study all night, finally "turning in" for some much needed sleep during the vtec small hours of morning. But it vj-as v/orth it. After five quar ters here, our heroine went on to Car olina to do a repeat performance. Five quarters at "Tho Hill", and up she came v/ith that sought-after sheepskin, that spells the difference betiveen lower and higher education. Miss Bradford, as she is known presently, in certain circles, called attention to the fact that v^hile her College major vn.s in personnel, she at present holds the position of Current Billing Clerk, with Atlantic Refining Company, Charlotte office, and v/hile she insists that the job is one of prosaic routine, having no earmarks vrhatsoever of glamour and glitter, it is the secret belief of at least one person that this particular blonde of whom we speak is merely biding her time as a hilling clerk, pending the m.oment when she will be invited to step up as assistant to and understudy of the President of the Company. Just betvreen us, any Company that counts Izzy ar.ong its employees can feel that "something NEV/ has been added."
