Sometime before the end of this semester the University library will rank elev enth on this scale. “In fact, our library is gaining on only Appalachian, Davidson, North Carolina Col lege at Durham and North Carolina A & T College. “The Atkins Library may still be a fledgling among larger university libraries, but it has made amazing progress during the last two years,” said head librarian, James Ramer. During the school year im mediately following the publi cation of the above statistics by the North Caro'ina State li brary, the then Charlotte Col lege library added more vol umes than all but five other college libraries in the state. This brought the Atkins collec tion up to 31st in the state. By the end of this semester, around 15,000 volumes will be added, pushing the library up to eleventh place with a total count of 60,000 volumes. But it will be a long time before the ranking goes any higher. The ten largest academic li braries in the state have collec tions in excess of 100,000 vol umes. “It will be several years before Ivan C.
