Page 8 The Carolina Journal, October 8,1969 SPORTS Intramural Football Begins By David Taylor The 1969-1970 Intramural Program got off to a fast start last week as six of the nine teams participating in football played practice games. The APO “Lovers” started the season off by defeating the llockos 27-0. The first half was a defensive struggle with neither team being able to mount a sustained drive. APO finally pushed across a touchdown and went into the halftime break leading 7-0. APO broke the game open in tlic second half. T^e defending champion “Lovers” scored three touchdowns and converted two extra points to put the game out of reach. Tuesday’s game between The Outliousc and the Old Timers was a brutally defensive contest. At the end of regulation play the score was tied 7-7. Under this year’s rules, a sudden death playoff must be held. Both teams are given the ball for four downs and the team advancing the ball the farthest is declared the winner. The Outhouse, in their four downs, advanced the ball 50 yards on pass plays covering 11, 20 and 19 yards. In their series, the Old Timers could cover only six yards. The OutHouse was, therefore, declared the winner. The weeks third game pitted Alpha Kappa Psi against the Engineer’s Club. The Engineer’s dominated the game from the outset and when the final gun went off they were on the long end of a 32-12 score. The defense of the Engineer’s completely stifled the AKPsi offense, turning three interceptions into touchdowns. This year, the Journal Sports Staff will choose an “Outstanding Player of the Week” and record weekly an overall individual scoring leaders. ‘Flag Football?’ Arts Committee There will be organizational meeting today at 11:30 a.m. in the main lounge of the Union. THE MODEL TWENTY-SIX is strictly for the record. I F our Model Twenty-Four sounded plenty good, but you don’t hold with radios, the Model Twenty- Six was made for you. It’s a simple unadorned phonograph (possibly the best you ever heard) except in the back, where there are provisions for making tape recordings, monitoring them, and playing AM and FM broadc^ts through its speakers, in case you take a notion to. But the point of the Model Twenty-Six is it doesn’t force you to pay for any such accessory equipment willy-nilly. It was designed for the stereo music lover who hates paying for unwanted extras. 2 yr. Guarantee ...
