Censorship (CPS) - The US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that a university may not censor a student-run publication simply because it is financed by the school. The case involved the University of Mississipi, which was enjoined from censoring the Daily Mississipian. The court ruled that once the university decided to suport the newspaper, it could not set unconstitutional conditions - such as surrender of First Amendment rights - as conditions for that support. The university has apealed the case to the US Supreme Court.. ,For Sale: 72 model trailer near UNCC campus ideal for married couple. 12 by 70. 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths. Hus’S Sports by jerry proctor The efforts of fielding a club football taem here at UNCC began to pay off in a hard fought 9-9 tie against UNC-Chapel Hill on March 30 and a victory by the 49ers over Central Piedmont on Saturday 06 April. The deadlock (against Chapel Hill), played on a rain drenched field, was the team' s second contest of the spring season..Duke University squeezed past the 49ers by 6-3 in the March 22 game. The encounter with UNC was a rematch from the fall season. The 49ers almost avenged the ball defeat to UNC but victory escaped them in the final minutes of the game. A pair of missed field goal tries and a goal line stand by the Tar Heels prevented a UNCC victory. Trailing 9-7 with time running out, the UNCC defense trapped the Tar Heels for a safety to tie the score. The game saving safety was indicative of the 49er defense plays ail afternoon. The defense of UNCC was also the shinning light against Duke. The home standing Blue Devils were held to only 9 first downs and 166 total yards. In both spring games, penalties have hampered the 49ers. Co-ordination of offensive patterns has been slow in developing but the future is bright. Students have responded to the chance to play and the enthusiasm has been encouraging to all involved with the program. In addition to increased student participation on the field, the club football program has benefitted from other kinds of help. A newly formed booster club is presently engaged in such fund raising activities as selling programs, cleaning rooms, sponsoring dances, holding benefit games and selling various goods to students. Such work on and off the field has solidly established the49ers in the Western Division of the area Club Football setup. Continued efforts should result in an even brighter future for the program, both financially and on the playing field. The UNCC Golf Team is sporting a respectable 6-1 record with four matches remaining. The 49er squad, coached by Floyd Kerr, has steadily improved over the past few seasons. The first five men on the six man team are: John Fellenz, senior; Chuck Little, senior; Larry Wilson, senior; Sam Spear, junior; and Banks Wood, sophomore, Three golfers rotate the sixth position. They are Davis Trotter, soph.omore; Willie Bissette, junior; and Van Southard, sophomore. The team's only loss came at the hands of the University of South Carolina. The 49ers lost on the Gamecocks home course, the Country Club of South Carolina at Columbia. In the University of Miami Invitational Tournament, the golf team finished twelfth out of 43 teams, including the top rated University of Maimi team, one of the best in the nation. Fellenz trailed by one shot after 64 holes of play in the ind ividual competition at Maimi. UNCC"s four man team posted a 299 for that tournament.. The 49ers play their home matches on the Forest Pawtuckett Country Club course. It is a demanding 6,752 yard layout on the south side of Charlotte.
