The Commuters' Cabaret opened into the ample space of the Parquet Room amid soft candle lights crowning scarlet clothed tables with ashtrays of gold. A speaker's stage and a performer's stage with accompanying mikes were set up at the front of the room. To the viewer's right was a piano. In the back of the Parquet Room was a long table, supporting several different varieties of beer to satisfy the taste of even the finickiest drinker. David Freeman acted as Master of Ceremonies as he welcomed commuters, dormies, faculty and administrative staff to the Commuter Cabaret sponsored by the newly formed Commuter Association. He quoted from the Journal: "Boy, this campus is sure apathetic!" "Yeah, but who cares,^' reminding us that all the hard work the Association has put into the evening's festivities would be in vain unless commuters unite now by supporting the Commuter Association which meets every Tuesday at 12:30 in Denny 220. David got the ball rolling by introducing Cynthia Bennett who accompanied herself on piano and sang her rendition of "Killing Me Softly" plus an original song of her own composition. By now well over one hundred people had arrived, registering a definite success for the Commuters' Cabaret. The next performers were a dance ensemble: Kathy Ray, Debbie Springs, and Andre Bell. Their dance consisted of a cascade of rhythmical movements, including the robot. Beth Griffin and Joe McCorkle 'formed on stage with be harmonizing t»o "Buckbe..y Boon Delight," with piano accompaniment from Joe. Joe sang a solo from Elton John, "Tiny Dancer." As Joe fiercely played • the popular Beatles' hit, "USSR," Beth boogied, bringing down the house with loud approval. Janet Cline had to announce some bad news. All the beer had been consumed! A hat was passed around in order for the Association to renew its supply. There was a true spirit of commutership aroused as about thirty dollars was collected in a matter of minutes.
