page five/the Carolina journal/april 6,1976 Government imposes spending limits By Johnny Williams As you may already know, Governor Jim Holshouser has imposed certain spending limitations which became effective February 26, 1976. jhe General Administration issued additional information on the subject in the form of ■‘Spending Limitation Guidelines’' which was disseminated on March 2. A series of UNCC guidelines and implementing procedures will be issued within the ne.\t tew days. In addition to the specilic limitations, a significant reduction in our fourth-quarter allotment has been imposed and Protest against new fight song To the Students: There has been much confusion in the past couple of weeks as to where the UNCC song "Miner's Fight" originated and whether or not the school would continue to use it. When I first jointed the Pep Band back in September, I learned that the school had no fight song or alma mater. I mentioned that the college I had attended previously , the University of Texas at El Paso, had a fight song called "Miner's Fight" that we could probably adapt for the 49ers. (Incidentally, it does have the same tune as the one used by U.T. Austin.) I wrote some friends in the ETEP Band for the words and the name of the publisher, and the UNCC Pep Band purchased the music and changed it to fit the 49ers. The Pep Band and 'Cheerleaders heard it and liked it, and "Miner's Fight" premiered at the first Coliseum game this season. I think I can speak for the Pep Band and a large portion of the student body of UNCC when I say that we would like to keep the "Miner's Fight" as our fight song. Flowever, I feel that the adoption of a fight song or alma mater should be voted Tri Delta Scholarship To the Students: The sisters of Beta Kappa of Delta Delta Delta Sorority are pleased to announce the winner of the annual Tri Delta Scholarship held at UNCC again this year. We've heard of Carolina and N.C. State, but I think your success this year is the best thing to happen to basketball in this area in quite awhile - particularly when 1 think that you use to play in our conference just five years ago! Best of luck to your continued success. Sean O'Kane Student Body President UNC-G Fight song? To the Students: I would like to express my dismay.
