Gilchrist, Dr. Heaton To Speak Commencement on June 4, pre ceded by the senior banquet on June 2 and the baccalaureate ser mon on June 3, will constitute the remaining activities of the graduating class of 1951. The senior banquet, given by the faculty to the twenty-one graduates, will be held at Chez Montet in the Mecklenburg Hotel. Baccalaureate and Commence ment programs for this second graduation are as follows: Baccalaureate Services June 3, 1951 8:15 P.M. Belk Chapel, Queens College Sermon to Graduates—Dr. George D. Heaton Dr. George D. Heaton, pastor of Myers Park Baptist Church, will deliver the baccalaureate sermon, the subject of which has not been announced. He is a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and received his D. D. from Georgetown Col lege in Kentucky. He was called to Charlotte from Lynchburg, Virginia, and has been at the Myers Park Baptist Church for eight years. A well known speak er all over North Carolina, Dr. Heaton has currently delivered a series of sermons on “Gateways to Successful Family Life” in the Belk Chapel on the Queens cam pus. (Continued on page 2) Scholarship Awards To Be Made The selection of the winners of the annual scholarship awards at Charlotte College will be made within the next few weeks. One scholarship, The Altrusa award, will be made at the commence ment exercises on June 4. This award was won last year by Carolyn Reichard, and the pre sentation was made at last year’s commencement program. Four other scholarships will be awarded on June 7. These awards consist of one complete two year scholarship valued at approxi mately $500, one award of $150, and two of $7.'i. They are avail able to entering freshmen and are awarded on the basis of achievement in high school, the recommendation of the high school principal, and a com petitive examination.
