Seventeen Students Make Dean's List In order to be listed on the Dean’s list, a student must take a full load of three subjects, 12 quarter hours of work, and main tain at least a B average. The following students met these re quirements: Arthur Coburn Farley, Jr.; Sula Floros; Albert Clarkson Futral; Charles Wesley Hickman, Jr.; George Dewey King; Moses Stephen Mahaley; Peter Nicholas Maydanis; Michael Hamilton Palmer; Fred Lafayette Prince, Bennett Jackson Proctor; Lambros K. Rigas; William Francis Scholl, Jr.; Herman Dewey Sheron, Jr.; Buel J. Stevenson; Grover Whitson Teeter; Charles C. Vess; and Hubert Allen Womack, Jr. Students who have taken the full load of 12 quarter hours of work and have maintained an average of “A” are: Moses Stephen Mahaley and Fred L. Prince. Scholarship Awarded To CC Aiumna Barbara Murphy, an alumna of Charlotte College, has been chosen as a Carnegie Fellow in the field of teaching to study at George Peabody College. This scholarship is valued at $1000 for each year and was awarded to twenty chosen Carnegie Fellows from the Liberal Arts Colleges in the south-eastern United States. Miss Murphy received her Associate of Arts degree at Charlotte College as a member of the first graduating class in 1950. She completed her Bachelors Degree at the University of North Carolina at the end of the Winter Quarter, 1952. New Scholarships To Be Awarded Charlotte College will award eleven scholarships sometime dur ing the summer. These scholarships will cover only the tuition while at CC and cannot be applied to books or other fees. All applicants for the .scholar ships will be required to write a theme on why they wish to attend Charlotte College. In addition, they will take a psychological and an Engli.sh examination. Candidates will be judged on the basis of their scholastic record and financial need. One $500.00 scholarship will be awarded. This scholarship will cover tuition for the two years at CC. Recently the College estab lished seven scholarships to be awarded to students from the seven City and County schools. Other scholarships are one $150 award (Continued on page 3) The election of Student Govern ment officers for 1952-53 steamed into a second run-off here on April 10. In the last round Arthur Farley of the Advanced Party battled Bill Scholl of the Progressive Party for the top administrative spot (President) in the government. The final outcome was a major upset for the Independent and Progres sive parties. Farley took 51 of the 96 votes cast. Earlier in the week candidates of the three political parties in the school slugged it out in the fiist run-off for the )emaining three posts (V. P., Sec. & Treas.) in the government. In the run-off for vice president, Charles Vess, of the Advanced party took on Bud Neimer of the Progressive party. Vcsf won by a 14 vote majority with the votes standing at 59 for Vess and 45 foi' Neimer. In the race for secretary, Velma Ray of the Advanced party was pitted against Wellene Hodge of the Independent party. Miss Ray triumphed with a vote of 53, with 51 votes going to Miss Hodge. Also in political bouts were Sula Floros of the Independent party and Truitt Boone of the Progressive party, vying for the post of treasurer. Miss Floros top pled Boone with a 60 to 42 vote. The run-off elections were the result of a neck-and-neck race for the offices in the original election held on April 8. In the first round only three of the twelve candidates were eliminated from the race. None of the candidates for president were eliminated in the original election.
