Upon receipt of Bryant’s report, how ever, we have, in all fairness to the club, revamped our edi torial page.) The leadership displayed by the Freshman girls in school here is heartening indeed. Almost all of them are active in clubs—French, Spanish, etc.—and all of them promise to develop into outstanding leaders. GREETINGS Christmas C. C. And Elsewhere If all our holidays except one had to be given up, and we had only one in the whole year, which one, do you suppose, would we vote to keep? It is not hard to answer that question, for if such a vote were put, we would hear the answer like a mighty chorus—Christmas! Of all the holidays in the year, it holds first place in our hearts. Where does Christmas happen? The house is full of it; the streets are full of it, and shops and trees and churches all speak of it in different ways. Even strangers’ faces are ad vertisements showing the transforming power of it. An old Montana friend says, “Ever notice how much purtier people look around Christmas? Even real mean people thin’.c about somebody else at Christmastime.” If there were nothing more to Christmas than each of us thinking about somebody else and trying to find some little object to express our affecLion, that would make it worth celebrating. Ypp, f’hristmas is the most important holiday of the whole year, and the celebrating of it deserves a little extra efJort from all of us. Why not, each of you, make it your task to go a little further than you did last year in making someone enjoy Christmas? A big smile and an extra warm handshake will mean a great deal to some lonesome soul; yet there is a very different kind of gift that will add a sparkle of anticipa tion. It’s an anonymous present you give someone, whether you’d ordinarily give that person a present or not. Your present shouldn’t be anything expensive or important—its important element is the unexpectedness and anonymity. We predict ihat this one unidentified present will bring you as much pleasure as all the others you give put together—it puts the surprise back in Christmas morning. Let’s make Christmas happen at C. C.! There’s no doubt in our mind but what every one of you will be at the big Christmas Dance on December 20, but let’s not let the dance be the only way in which we make Christmas known at C. C. Let’s let the Christmas spirit be seen in our hearts and cn our faces; then it will be a Merry Christmas at Charlotte College and elsewhere. Club Reactivation Successful Reactivation of the almost defunct fraternities and cor- orities is proving very successful. The recent initiation into Sigma Lambda Chi of seven new members should very well bolster that club’s thin ranks. Venoy Bryant, president, promises that we will hear from Sigma Lambda Chi after we take up studies in January. (Originally, we had written our editorial criticizing the fra- On behalf of the entire Student Council I would like to express our wishes for a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years to all the students and facul ty of Charlotte College. We hope you have enjoyed the school year thus far and that the coming of the new year and the winter quar ter will bring more enjoyment and a more fruitful reward for expend ed efforts. We hope to see you all safe and sound on January 5th. ARTHUR FARLEY. SIGMA LAMBDI CHI FRATERNITY The Fall Quarter of school found our fraternity very weak when so many old members failed to return to Charlotte College. Many offices had to be filled and plans made for this year’s activities. With the recent initiation of new members we will be more active in school affairs. A fraternity should be a vital part of school life and bear such responsibilities. It is our earnest desire to become a guide to a greater school life and bear such responsibilities. It is our earnest desire to become a guide to a greater school and college. The following persons are new members, initiated into the fra ternity during the week of Decem ber 1: Robert William Hickey, Jim Gunnells, Jerry Martin, Robert Stone, Jimmy Turner, William Ward Davis, and Fred Morrison. SIGMA PI ALPHA FRATERNITY The Sigma Pi Alpha Language Fraternity, under the capable lead ership of its president. Miss Sula Floros, is having a party at 8:00 p. m., Monday, December 22nd, in the Hanna Room of the Y.M.C.A. A special program of entertain ment pertaining to languages and Christmas has been planned. There will also be singing, dancing, and refreshments. Members of the newly organized French and Spanish clubs, as well as faculty members interested in foreign languages, and alumni of Sigma Pi Alpha have been invited as sjiecial guests. GOSSIP BY A. GOSSIP As we begin our walk along the starry path of this year, we find numerous “Twinkles” from last year still shining brightly. Among these stars are Wellene Hodge and Joe Griffin. (This makes one year of steady company!) Has anyone been able to match the “shade of pink” in the I'usl? Why does Tommy Danson hang around the CC office ? Is it Miss Cone or Joyce? What’s this I hear about Hobby Henderson? Does he really like Marilyn Daly or is it just a pass ing fancy ? ? ? ? This Jimmy Turner and Carol Lineberger affaire has been going on for a year. Could this be for real? STATEMENT: Our own librar ian says, “I want all my service men home for Christmas.” Miss Puette, we the students of CC wish you the best of luck and all the joy and happiness possible. And, Lucille, it “sho” is “purty!” Just who is it that intei-ests Beverly Lindsey at Wake Forest? Don’t tell anyone but we bet it's Yulan. Our “Snooks” Howard, zoot-suit and all, For one of our Freshmen has start ed to fall; Forsaken are pals—Tom, Dick, a:id Horace Now he dreams only of our 15arb- bara Morris. What’s this we hear about Far ley, Vess, and Stevenson, going to Alaska to pan gold? (To pan gold?)) This column sympathizes with Madame Dillon—Hmmmph! Those traveling husbands! Jack Starnes says that he hopes that the “nervous” twitch that Bill Palmer has is not contagious.
