Hodges To Address Collegers Largest Class Magazine For Students Writer’s Club .Vlasazine On May 24, 1957 the Writer’s Club of Charlotte College released its first publication of Owl Tracts. This first edition initiates a long line of literary work designed to: “uphold the highest ideals of a liberal education.” The magazine’s material ranges from poetry to short stories. All subject matter was compiled and edited by mem bers of the club. Owl Tracts has now become an estalilished campus publication which is to be released every quar- te)-. Building on its foundation of this year, Owl Tracts is a literary magazine which will give the best to the friends and student body of Charlotte College. This is the clos ing of a year but it is the begin ning of an avenue for the college to broaden its scope and influence. The entire W'riter’s Club hopes that the student body favors their work and welcomes all enthusiasm and interest. At the final meeting of the club, officers for the coming year were electcd. Thos who will lead for ’57- ’58 are: pres.—Ronnie Shumate, vice-pres.—Hal Kellams, sec-treas. —Mrs. Dorothy Macallister, and historian—George Killough. The Honorable Luther H. Hodges News For Next Year The 1957-58 editions of the Char lotte Collegian will be offered to members of this year’s graduating class at a reduced rate, Mr. Fred (lollins, incoming business manager of the Collegian, announced last week. Mr. Coilin.s stated that the increase in the list of advertisers this year enabled him to make the offer. This special rate is good to any member of the present graduating class, providing he subscribes be fore the beginning of the new school year. Mr. Collins said that he was not prepared to quote the exact figure of the rate at the (See NEWS, p. 2, col. 4) The Honorable Luther H. Hodges, Governor of North (Carolina, will deliver the main address at the Charlotte College commencement exercises. The chairman of the Board of Trustees of Charlotte College, Mr. .J. Murrey Atkins, will preside. The exercises will be held in the Central High School Auditorium. Miss Bonnie E. Cone, director of Charlotte College, will award diplomas to the largest graduating class in the history of the school. The forty seniors will hear the invocational given by Dr. W. B. H. C^orky, a member of the faculty. Governor Hodges’ address will be followed by the giving of awards by Dr. Palmer H. Garinger, super intendent of (’harlotte City Schools. The governor will be introduced by Mr. Robert Lassiter, a mem- mer of the State Board of Higher Education.
