Let every tax-paver proouivone, direct it to his Congress man, ami put on the other side some thing like this: Hox. "Dear Sir: The government ool leets every year a large amount of money it does not need. I am sick mid tired of paying my share of this suiplus when it does me no good. Keep the tax on whiskey, but give us cheaper food and clothing. If you don't vote to reduce the taxes you will 'hear something drop' in the oniing campaign should yon stand for le-ekction.'' "Very respectfully, Concord" Times. The oft-reftenited demands of the Nith Cisrofina Democracy, the in ternal revenue repeal clause in our J-Mate Democratic platform, the ac tion of our State Democratic Execu tive Committee, and the expression tors and representatives in Congress, or the demands of the Democratic voters, and at the same time say, " Keep the tax on whiskey." The campaign is opening up, and the people, not saying much, are, Mieawber like, waiting and watching for something to turn up, and we may set it down that they will sup port those who favor the repeal of this odious, obnoxious, unAmerican law irrespective of party. It is said to be the " principle and duty of the Democratic party to down monopoly, the offspring of despotism," and the pure Democracy of old Carolina will vote to- down , this revenue " infernal." XOMTSIIE IlELli.;.STOTHE VXIOX! The crowning results of man's efforts often appear many years after his "return to dust"; the sweetest and most perfect ties of home life have often but taken deep root when death snatches away the father or mother, and even years pass before some well-planned governments rise to their zenith. This is conspicu ously true just now. Though her representatives are admitted to seats of our legislative bodies, would seem f brand the above caption as alto-j iu the nation's- legislative hall's, and' r"fher undemocratic, but in the face of all this we lind there are some in the ranks who advise against inter nal rewnue repeal.. The loyalty of these representatives ot Jeffersonian principles we do nut doubt, neither would we challenge- for a moment their allegiance to the party; but it does really appear to us that they their speeches have sent terror into the "rank and tile" of government jobbers and scheming monopolists,. North Carolina has ever since the Avar been, in a greater or less degree,, the butt of evil remarks and ground less assertions of the "bloodv-slurt " ink slingers. The dawn of a ne w era is upon us day and were formally arraigned on the charge of bringing stolen money to wit: $25,000, the property of the Norfolk National Bank, the Rich mond State Bank and the State Na tional Bank of Raleigh, into Canada. Through their counsel they deferred making an election or pleading until Friday, to which day they were ac cordingly remanded. Messrs. Heartt and Busbee had a lengthy interview with the prisoners this morning' They were inclined to be stubborn and refused to listen to any offer made by the District-Attorney. To all of his inducements they replied by referring him to their le gal adviser, who is considered one of the ablest criminal lawyers in the Dominion. Heartt said to your cor respondent that he was slightly dis appointed as he had not anticipated any resistance. "While the interview was in progress Mr. Hardy's counsel heard of it and at once appealed to the magistrate to have it stopped. Tho court granted the appeal, the prisoners being removed umler his I instructions to the cells. Mr. Hardy lodges the information against them. Bigelow says the prisoners will not go back unless granted safe conduct. The Raleigh bank case is assuming a pe culiar form. It is developing into a triangular figlit of considerable magnitude and special interest. The police authorities here have the pris oners. The Raleigh authorities in tend to bid high for them and the Norfolk National Bank has a claim on a portion of the boodle found on the prisoners that they propose put ting into practicable shape unless their claim is speedily satisfied.
