Hufham, of Shelby, accompanied by
Revs. Webb, Limrick and Hawkins,
went last Friday to Lincoln county,
according: to agreement, to meet in
debate Prof, Dermon, of Hickory.
They discussed baptism and infant
salvation. The debaters were Rev.
Dr. J D Huf Lam and Prof, Der
mon, each spoke at first 30 minutes,
then a rejoinder of 20 minutes each.
The large crowd ec joyed the battle
about church doctrine. One Metho
dist, Rev. Carpenter was present as
"a looker on," at Carpenter's school

bate was fair, uninterrupted and
without personalities or strife, and
the preliminaries of the contest were
arranged by Rev. G M Webb. A
Baptist church was organized there
the night before tbe debate.
