The State Superintendent of
Public Instructions directs me to
say: On the second Thursday
in July an examination for life
certificate wifi-be held in trie
court house. The questions tor
said examination will be prepared
by the State Board pt Education.
The papers will be examined and
the certificates awarded by said
Board. The questions will not be
opened till the time for the ex
amination to begin, say at 9 a. m.
Questions will be prepared on
the following subjects;
English Grammar, English Lit
erature, History, Geography,
physical Geography,; Arithme
tic, Algebra, Physics, Phys
iology and Hygiene, Ele
mentary Botany, Philosophy
and History of Education, Civil
Government - and School Law.
The following books in addition
to these adopted by the County
Board are suggested as indicating
the scope of the examination on
the several" subjects : Whitney's
Essentials of English Grammar;.
Pancoaste's Composition and
Rhetoric; Lockwood's Lessons
in English; Maury's Geography;
Tan's Pnysicial Geography;
Sully'fc Psychology for Teachers;
White's Elements of Pedogogy;
Physics (Avery and Gage); Berr
gen's Botany; Martin's Human
body, .j

used in the public -" schools can
give any information wanted in
regard to books. -
According to the new sohool
law civil government is consti
tuted a subject to be taught in
the public schools. Teachers will
therefore be examined, hereafter
on that subject, and should pro
cure ihe required books, if they
have not already done so, and
prepare themselves for the ex

edition, are on the list adopted
in this county; Either one of
those books or any other will
answer. - The main thing with
the teacher who stands an ex
amination is to know something
of Civil Government. -
There T will be no examination
for Peabocly scholarship this
year for the sufficient reason that
none will be awarded to this
State, all the vacancies having
been filled in accordance with
the other rules governing the
appointment.

to themselves as well as more

villa and robbed the home of the
