Old man Dave Riley, of Dur ham, is dead. Sometime during the past week he died in his little dinsrv apartments under the O'Bryant building on Main street. It is supposed that he was drunk and alone when the death summons came. Bis body had been eaten by some kind of varmints. It was a horrible sight that met the gaze of those who soon gathered around. One eye, both sides of his face and the flesh on one hand had been eaten off by rats or cats. Died In the Guard House. John Carter, a well known character of Durnam, was up before the mayor of that city last Thursday on a charge by his wife of being drunk and dis oaderly. The evidence before the mayor was not sufficient to convict him. He was discharged, as he was walking upthe street near the court house he fell as if with afitandhis head hit first,he was picked up in an unconcious condition he died that night from the effect.
