The roads at present are under the rcanament of the county commis sioners, men selected by them hav ing direct supervision of road work. Naturally the men who hold the Va rious positions connected with the roads are strongly opposing the meas ure. On the other hand there are rrfiTiV here w ho have for years con- teM that the present system of roai managment in Cabarrus in anti- nnnted. unbusinesslike and does not ivp the best results. They look upon it as a svstom of road management for nolitieal purposes only. Their chief argument in favor of a change in the road management being that the county needs a trained engineer to look after the roads. Work Accomplished at The Meeting. The teachers' meeting Saturday was pretty well attended. Those javing the - farthest distance to come suoweu piupoi uuiiaicy jetter attendance that those nearer. It was decided that the examination of applicants for a public school di ploma would be held at the school? that had pupils who had completed the seventh grade, on I.ith and 14th of March. .The questions tor the ex amination will be prepared by the High School principals. The teach ers will conduct the examination and send the papers to Superintendent Boger. The papers will be graded bylhe High School principals. A num ber of schools reported having pupns wishing to take the examination. Any school that has pupils who wish to frnlrp the examination but has not re ported this fact, will please do so nt once. No questions will be sent to any school that does not make this. report. It was decided to hold the county commencement on Saturday, April o. At this time all those entitled to a public school diploma will receive them. Declamations and recitations from members of the seventh grade will be had and a spelling contest will -he had. from members of the sixth grade. The option on the building the' Smith office building expired today and at its ex piration the necessary amount, $3,250, was secured. Mr. L. T. Hartsell, a turstee of the library, 'has drafted a deed and it will be sent at once to Mr. J. B. Clegg, of Texas, trustee of the estate of the late W. M. Smith, and as soon as it is signed it will be turned over to the library association.
