Cannon. f ’ Several hundred persons attended the dance given at the Merchants and Man ufacturers Club Friday evening for Mr. and Mrs. Martin L. Cannon, who recent ly moved to Charlotte. The assemblage was a brilliant and prominent one . and in addition to the 75 dancers, present there were several hundred members and friends of the club in the vast concourse that filled the dance hall from the beginning until the end of the dance. Dancing began at 9 o’clock and continued uufil after one o’clock. The dance was by far the largest of the Christmas season in Concord. The popularity of the lionorees and the pleas ure that has always attended dances giv en by the dub accounted for the presence of so many daucers and spectators. The dance was profusely and beautifully decorated for the dance. Christmas decorations predominated. At tractive favors were given the dancers during several dances and punch was served to those present during (lie en tire evening. The dance was given as a tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Cannon, the former having served as the club president since the club was organized here several years « ago. Negro Killed by Train. An unknown negro man. believed to have been a hobo, was killed-by a South ern freight train near the passenger sta tion at Harrisburg some time Friday night. Tile body was discovered about 4 o’clock Saturday morning by the agent at Harrisburg who communicated* as once with Sheriff Caldwell and Coroner Hart sell. According to reports reaching the city the body was found near the tracks a short distance north of the Harrisburg station. The body was (brown clear of the tracks ami its position indicates that the body was thrown from the train and killed in the fall. Permission was granted the railroad company to move the body when an in vestigation showed thiil the negro with out doubt had been killed by a train. New Officers of I. O. O. F.
