Discussion of a public hospital foi j Cabarrus county was one of the most important items on the program ol ! the weekly meeting of the Concord Kiwanis Club Friday. The meeting was held at the Hotel Concord, this being the first meeting of the club there\ After a discussion entered into by a number of members the club went on—record as favoring a hospital, whether public or private. An invitation from the Lexington Club for an inter-city meeting was accepted, the meeting to be held July 32th. The Concord, Salisbury, Moores ‘ ville and Statesville elnbs will attend | the meeting. Beautiful Affair For Bride. Mrs. Greenlee Caldwell and Miss Martha Caldwell were hostesses at a delightful bridge party Thursday af ternoon,.entertaining in compliment to Mrs. Archie Foil, attractive bride, who is visiting in Concord. The home was beautifully arrang ed with sweet peas, roses, larkspur and summer flowers. Nine tables were placed for bridge and at the con clusion of the game, Miss Rosa Cald well held high score, and received a lovely sandwich tray, while Mrs. J. A. Goodman was given an attractive box of bath salts as low score prize. The hostesses presented the honoree with a beautiful tray. A delicious salad course was serv ed. HICKORY’S NEW HOTEL TO BE OPENED JULY 15 Big Dinner Dance Will Mark the Event—Jersey Jubilee' on July 27. ! Hickory, July 4.—The new Hick- 1 ory hotel will be opened on July 15, it wflfi announced by General Mana ger C. S. Kirkpatrick. Progress on the hostelry has been speeded up and with the complete furnishing of the upstairs bedrooms, including the hanging of curtains and draperies, attention is being turned to the 1 downstairs rooms which are ready i for the furniture. Work was started last year on the $300,000 hostelry and continued through. the winter without a letup. There are 100 bedrooms with private baths in the hotel in addition to lob by, -dining rooms, kitchen rooms, kitchen, coffee shop, ball room, and other chambers. Former opening of the hotel will take place with a big dinner dance on the night of July 15. The next event of important to take place there is the convening of the North Carolina Press association of July 21 for the midsummer meeting. Mr. Sloop Celebrates 71st Birthday. A large number of friends and rela tives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Sloop at Kannap olis Tuesday, when Mr. Sloop’s 71st birthday was celebrated in the custo mary style—with a big dinner and plenty of good cheer among those present. . Mr. Sloop has recently sold his property at Kannapolis and is arranging to go to California where he has a large farm. He has lived in that far-away state three different times, and will probably leave for the fourth time in September, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. McGraw wei*e among the guests at the Sloop home Tuesday. Death of Julius P. Wilson. Julius P. Wilson, aged 53, died Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at his home in No. 10 township after an illness of several years. Death was caused by tuberculosis. Funeral services were held this af ternoon at 2 o’clock at Bethel Church and interment was in the church cem etery. ' Mr. Wils,on waif born in Cabarrus county on January 20, 1872, and bad spent his entire life in No. 10 town ship. He was a member of Bethel Church. Surviving are his wife and eleven children.
