Sinco last week the attractive Miss Brown has made large and steady gains, ner fiiends sending in more than ->'K) voles in one day. There are still nine days more of fighting—and can yju guess what fair brows will wear the crowns of victory? If y-m can, you are shrewder than anybody else, for the friends of several of the young Indies have declared that their favorites shall iiot lie Leateu. It has come to a grapple between five town* dps—Quaker Crap, Meadows. Snow Creek, Beaver Island and Peter > Creek. La p h of these five except Snow Creek—have at one time or another led the race, but this week S.iow Cieek reaches higher than any «.lher town ship has yet reached except Meadows, by liftirg Miss Lettie Sue Brown 852 v.itcs. Yadkin and Sauratown, while having candidates in the race, have not fought with the zeal of the others, though Miss Spainhour ami Miss Adams and others of these townships are making steady gains and may yet prove formidable candidates. A gentleman here yester day said that "Old Yadkin would yet become aroused, and would likely elect Miss Nannie Spainhour if it did." Miss S|minhour is the popular daughter of Mr. John W. Spainhour, of King. The same gentleman, discussing the situation, said that if he wi.s interested in the contest that befoiehe would see his favorite defeated, he would buy 50 or 100 subscriptions to the Reporter out of his own pocket, enough to elect, and would then, after the end of the contest, sell the subscriptions and get his money back. He said that SSO in vested in subscriptions would im-an one thousand votes, or SIOO would mean two thousand, and so on. Some of the young ladies are gelling out and working for them selves. They say that they had nothing to do with putting their names tip, but as long as they urn up they would like to win. They approach a fellow like thin : "Do you owe the Reporter anything ?" If he says yes, he is reque;t* I I > piv up a-id turn his votes t 1 them. If he says he owes nothing, he it r quested to pay up in advance a year or two, and give them the v .i. s. Nime limes out i.f ten the fellow can't resist. Let every subscriber of the Repo ter end in a doli ir or his or her subscription before the contest clones, whether yon ure already paid up in advance or not, and cast 20 votes for somelxMly. Do it now and let the votes come in as a Christmas gift for the girl ..F your clioi *e. Don't you think she won't, appreciate it. Just sav in your letter whom you wish your votes cast for, an I wo will do the rest. Remember that no votes will b.> received after sunset on Saturday, Decemlier 30, and tho votes w ill Iw counted and the premiums awarded immediately afterwards. A NICE HONOR ROLL.
