SEC. 2. The commissioners of Stokes county are authorized and directed tr. invest each year in in terest-bearing securities which in their judgment are safe and relia ble tbe surplus money arising from the county taxes paid by the Norfolk and Western Railroad Company, over and above the am ount required to pay interest on the bonds issued by Sauratown township in aid of said railroad, j on all their property lying and be ; ing in Sauratown township in said | county of Stokes, the interest un the bonds outstanding first having been paid each year before said surplus is invested; and the sur plus so invested shall be a sinking fund for the redemption of the DANBURY, N. C., SEPT. 27, 1906. bonds at maturity, it being the in tention of this act that the surplus shall not be used by the county as a part of geneval county fund, but for the purpose herein set forth. SEC. 3 T'nat whenever tbe bond ed debt, principal and interest, of said tow nship, constructed in aid of the Roanoke and Southern, now the Norfolk and Western Railroad, she'd have been paid by saidcouu ty taxes on said road and the said ' ownship fully reimbursed for what has been already paid and whenever the Meadow township shall be fully reimbursed and said taxes principal and interest the i amount paid by said township that I this act shall amount to be opera- J tive and all such taxes shall be j paid into the general oounty fund. SEC. 4. That this act shall be in I force from and after its ratifi t cation. Ratified the 6th day of ! March, A. D. 1893. The Act of 1895, amending the above act, is as follows : AN ACT TO AMEND SECTIONS ONE (1) AND THREE (3) OF CHAPTER FOUR HUNDRED AND FORTy-EIGHT (448) OF THE LAWS OF ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND NINETY-THREE (1893), AND TO ADD OTHER SECTIONS. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact : SECTION 1. That section one (1) of chapter four hundred and forty-eight (448) of the laws of one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three (1893) be amended as follows : After the word "be," in line seven (7), insert the follow ing : "divided into two equal shares, one-half thereof to belong to Sauratown township, and the other half thereof to belong to the territory now embraced in Mead ow and Danbury township, to be divided betweeu said Meadow and Danbury townships, in proportion to the amount of taxes paid by said territory now embraced in Danbury and Meadow townships, | respectively, to the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley railroad company, and shall be." Also, insert after the word "Sauratown," in line eight (8) of said section, the word "Danbury." SEC. 2. And that section three (8) of said chapter be amended by striking out the word "construct ed," in line two (2), and inserting in lieu thereof the word "con , tracted," and by striking out all of j said section after the word "the," lin line five (5), and inserting in lieu thereof the following : "terri ! Tory now embraced in Meadow I ; and Danbury townships, and also I Sauratown township, shall be ful jly reimbursed, principal and in ! terest, for the amount paid by said above named territory to the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valloy railroad company out of said county taxes upon said Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley railroad, then this act shall be inoperative, and all such taxes thereafter collected from said rail road shall be paid into thegoneral county fund," so as to make sec tion one (1) read as follows : Sec tion 1. The commissioners of Stokes county are hereby author ized and directed to set apart from all other county taxes, all the taxes paid each year as county taxes by the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley railroad company on their prop erty, lying and being in Saura town and Meadow townships, of said county of Stokes ; and the same so, respectively, paid each year on the property in each of said townships by eaid railroad' company, shall be divided into two I equal shares, one-half thereof to belong to Sauratown township, and the other half to belong to the | territory now embraced in Mead- I ow and Danbury townships, to be divided between said Meadow and Danbury townships in proportion Ito the amount of taxes paid by | said territory now embraced in Danbury and Meadow townships, respectively, to the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley railroad company, and shall be expended exclusively | within the said Sauratown and I Meadow and Danbury townships, respectively, for reforming the public roads, building bridges, ex tending schools, or such other purposes as the commissioners mat deem best, and not other wipe." And section three (3) of said chapter to read as follows : Section 3. That whenever the I bonded debt, principal and in terest, of said townships, contract ed in aid of the Roanoke and Southern, now the Norfolk and Western, railroad, shall have been fully paid by said county taxes on said road, and the territory now embraced in Meadow and Dan bury townships, and also Saura town township, shall be fully re imbursed, principal and interest, for the amount paid by said above named territories to the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley railroad com pany out of said county taxos up on said Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley railroad, then this act shall be inoperative, and all such taxes thereafter collected from said raii road shall be paid into the general! I county fund." Sec. 3. And the commissioners of said county of Stokes are here by required to administer and en ' force chapter four hundred and forty-eight of the public laws of one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three (1893), aa herein amended, the same as if the said amendments herein made had been included in the aforesaid ohapter, as ratified on the sixth (6) day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three (1893). SEC. 3. This aot shall be in force from and after its ratification. Ratified the 2d day of March, A. D. 1895. VADE MECUM ROUTE 1. Shores and daughter, Miss Ellen ; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Nelson, arrived here Wednesday from Greensboro. We are sorry to note the illness of Mr. Otto Tucker. Mr. W. H. Reid has opened up a small stock of goods at this place. Mr. R. M. Brown left Tuesday for Greensboro where he has ac cepted a position in the store of A. H. Nelson as clerk. Mr. P. R. Nelson made a trip to Pilot Mt. Saturday on business. Mr. Aplin Nelson is out again, after several weeks' illness with typhoid fever.
