Briefs Adrift. Grady Rothrock, of Dillard, spent Saturday night with friends here. The roof of the court house is being given a fresh coat of paint; this week. Miss Mary Taylor, a student of ' Guilford College, i 9 expected home tomorrow. Mr. J. W. Hall has been attend ing Forsyth Superior Court at Winston the past week. William Joyce returned home Thursday from W'inston, where he spent several days visiting friends and relatives. Prof. Smith's school here closed last Friday, and the non-resident students have returned to their respective homes. Dr. W. C. Slate, of Capella, was here Mondy and qualified as ex ecutor of the estate of Misß Nancy Wall. Mr. A. G. Hill and Mr. Nunn, of Westfield Route 1, were here last week on business at the court house. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Savage and ohildren, of Germanton, spent Saturday and Sunday with the family of Mr. C. M. Jones. The Reporter offioe acknowled ges a pleasant call from Misseß Frances Covington and Anna Mar tin, of Meadows, Saturday. Mr. N. Ray Martin, who has been a student at the A. & M. College in Raleigh the past year, returned to his home here Tues day. Mr. W. C. Smith, a leading to bacco farmer of the Hard bank country, was in town Thursday, on his way home from Walnut Cove. Mr. Joel Robertson, of Dellnr, and one of the best citizens of the oounty, dropped in to see us Mon day. He was on his way to Wal nut Cove on business. Messrs. C. D. Smith and L. P. Grogan, two of the good citizens of the Smithtown neighborhood, were in town a short while ou bus iness Monday. Since the excellent tobacco seas ons during the past week it is estimated that something like three-fourths of the tobacco crop has been put out. Messrs. R. H. R. Blair and son H. A. Blair and Mr. Raleigh Stuart, carpenters, are at Hard bank buildiDg a new residence for Mr. Thos. Mabe, a leading farmer of that section of the coun ty- Mr. George W. Newsom, of Ger manton Route 1, a valued friend of the Reporter, was in Danbury today. While in town Mr. Newsom dropped in to see the Reporter and presented us with a box of ex cellent cherries grown on his farm. The Rev. John A. Gilmer, pas tor of the First Presbyterian church of Mt. Airy, will fill bis regular appointment at the Pres byterian church here next Sun day morning and night. The public has a cordial invitation to attend. Master John Taylor, who has been at Raleigh attending school and visiting his friend Master Thos. Lacy, son of State ' Treasurer Lacy, since last September, returned Tuesday ac companied by young Lacy. Misses Nellie Joyce and Blanche Pepper will return home from the State Normal College today. Miss Joyce, who graduated at this term, will bo accompanied home by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Joyce, who attended commencement. Cjuite a severe storm visited this immediate community Saturday afternoon. The rain was accom panied by hail and a hard wind. The Slate telephone line was broken down in several places be tween here and Capella by trees being blown on it. Mr. Berkley preached to a very attentive congregation at Knoll Hurst in the afternoon. This is the doggondest district in the county. One man sold about $50.00 worth of puppies last year. Now his neighbor has 11 hounds. We are glad to learn that Mrs. H. L. Wall is better after quite an attack of bronchitis. People are about through plant ing tobacco. The seasons for such work have been very favorable. There was more fertilizer bought in this district than in 10 years, and more tobacco planted than in several years. Lookout for a low price. Mr. Editor, can't you pursuade the people to raise more mules in Stokes and stop letting so much of our money go to other States for stock ¥ NOTICE.
