This advice is often given with some warmth ! and not in all friendship, but I assure you I am speaking as a ! friend. Nor am I giving advice [of any other nature than physi cal. It is a fine investment |often to "shut one's mouth." land close in that "memberwhich Ino one can bridle." I have I known a few pieces of violence !to arise from the "open mouth iand the wagging tongue." But | this little article wants to warn you only of the dangers to your health from the ojjen mouth. Air is uir most abundant and cheaj)est food. Air is ou" best friend. We need it every min ute, in fact, several times in a minute. But we do not need it through the mouth. The nose is "fixed for breathing," but not the mouth. This good friend of ours may carry many enemies, and while intended to bring life only, may often bring death when admitted through the mouth. It is a hard matter for dust and disease germs to find their way to throat and lungs through the nose, but very easy when they enter byway of the mouth. So. "shut your mouth." is good advice to breathe by. and also good advice to cough by. When you feel you just must ough, shut your mouth. If' necessary, place the hand over i it and press hard. If you are tempted to open your mouth i when you sleep, it will pay you j to tie it up with a rubber band, j By all means, and for your j i health's sake, shut your mouth : j ; (1) When you breath. (2) when j | sleep, (3) when you cough, and i ; (41 when you eat. G. T. HOWERTON. State Norman School. Ada. ! 1 Okla. I I I Peters Creek, Va. Peter's Creek. Va., April 25. Misses Daisy Lawson and Taitha Jefferson called on Miss j Lillie Leak Sunday afternoon. Last year there was a big talk i around Leak's School house | about meat being stolen, and this year meat is so high they can't reach it, and they have gone to scratching up Mr. P. G. Jefferson's and Mr. J. R. Col lins' potatoes. Guess they are not Unions, and the inde pendents won't have them, and if the devil don't take them they are gone. Say, Ollie Jessup, write often, your letters are real interesting. We had a little hail storm last night, but not any damage done I think. A GRAY EYED STRANGER.
