C. Branson, of the North View section, and Mr. W. A. Nelson, of the Buck Island neighbor hood, were talking to us this week with reference to the increased interest and the marked improve ment being shown in farming in their respective communities. Mr. Branson says there is almost as much difference in the methods and results of crop-growing now as compared with five years ago as in day and night. People are taking infinitely more pains, plowing the land deep er, pulverizing it more thoroughly, using better stock, tools, and seed. In Mr. Nelson's country it is likewise. More clover and other legumes are being put in, the lands are being improved, and more stuff is being grown to the acre. It is not only in the North View and the Buck Island neighborhoods that farming is getting a hump on itself in Stokes. From all sections of the county there is a general awakening in the God chosen science. Enthusiasm and brains are com ing to the rescue. The lands of the county are naturally fine for agriculture, and our folks are learning it, and profiting by it. Let the good work go on, let the farm demonstra tion outlay be increased, let us have farm schools, and other things tending to the uplift of the busi ness in which 98 per cent, of our citizenry is en gaged. MECKLENBURG'S CHARMING ROADS. Mr. Robert Neal, the bright and good-looking young son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Neal, of Meadows, paid a pleasant call to the Reporter office today. This young man has been going to school in Meck lenburg, and to say that he is pleased with the memory of the charming roads of that splendid county, would state a fact too mildly. We asked Mr. Neal if he favored good roads, and he said he reckoned he did, and that if he were able, he would willingly give SIO,OOO toward building good roads in his home county, Stokes. Air. Neal says that in twelve months Mecklenburg will have ma cadamized every foot of her public roads. The hope is dim and far-distant that we may ever approach Mecklenburg's road conditions, but we shall cherish the wish that some day, some time in the future years we may awake to the consciousness that good roads are an immense contribution towards prosperity and happiness. 200 PAIRS OF LAST YEAR'S SHOES TO GO AT COST AT W.
