DATES ARE FIXED FOR STOKES COUNTY FAIR Premiums List To Be Issued At An Early Date—Grabs Manufactur ing Co. Hold Annual Meeting— Death of John A Alridge. King, May 15.—Farmers in this section are very busy prepar ing tobacco land. They are about through planting corn. The directors of the Stokes County Fair Association met a few days ago and fixed the dates for this year's fair October 17, 18 and 19. They expect to get out their premium list at an early date. They made a larger appropriation for premiums than last year. The association expects to have an airship ascension each day of the fair. The stockholders of the Grabs Manufacturing Co. held their annual meeting here this week. The old officers were re-elected. A dividend of 6 per cent was de clared. Born to Mr. and Mrs. A. T Overby, a son. Miss Kate Perry Stone left yesterday for High Point to be at the bed side of her sister, Miss Claudie Stone, who is very sick with appendicitis. John A. Alridge, aged 82 years, died suddenly at his home Mon day evening. Mr. Alridge was a Union soldier and drew a govern ment pension. He ate a hearty supper Monday evening and died a few minutes later. News of Sandy Ridge. Sandy Ridge, May 15. —We are having some hot weather throughout this section and the farmers are busy with their crops. Miss Daisy Shelton, of Martins ville, Va., is the guest of Miss t Sue Scales this week. ! Miss Louise Brown spent Tues day evening with Miss Lucy iJoyce. Rev. Norley, of Spencer, Va., preached a fine sermon at the Presbyterian church Sunday evening. He will preach here every second Sunday evening. Messrs. Oscar Thompson and John Joyce spent Sunday even ing with Miss Louise Brown. Mrs. J. W. Joyce visited her daughter, Mrs. E. V. Price, Sat urday and Sunday. She reports that the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Price is low with pneu monia. Mr. Len Zigler, who has been sick for a long time, does not improve any. Messrs. C., May 18. Dear Reporter: The Old North State hills and hollows are alive with locusts once more. Mr. Willie McHome, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. John McHome died Wednesday morn ing was laid to rest at Snow Creek church Thursday evening. He had been suffering several months with that dreadful dis ease consumption. He leaves a wife and child to mourn their loss besides a large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives. May they all prepare to meet him in that brighter and better world. Born to Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Shelton, a fine boy. Several from around here at tended the Farmers' Union pic nic at Five Forks Saturday. They report a nice time. Mr. Hassel Tilley is on the sick list this week, we are sorry to note. Mr. R. A. Martin has moved into his new dwelling near Mr. G. A. Martin's. Mr. Henderson Priddy is ser iously ill with paralysis, we are sorry to state.
