THE DANBURY REPORTER VOLUME XXXIX. PUBLIC SCHOOLS TIME OF OPENING POSTPONED Board of Education at Meeting Monday - Recommended that Schoola Be Not Opened Until Oct. 16. At a special meeting of the Board of Education here Mon day, County Supt. of Schools J. T. Smith made the following recommendations to the Board : "Owing to the late season and the need of the children to work on the farm, it is recommended that the Board of Education allow any school in the county to be put off for two weeks, or until Oct. 16th, provided the people of the district desire to have the school postponed and can make satisfactory arrange ments with the teachers so as not to cause damage or unneces sary expense to them.". It was further recommended that "every school be opened on Oct 16th, and where a teacher cannot begin then, unless providentially hindered, that a teacher be secured who can begin at that time." The Board approved the above recommendations and ordered the Supt to notify teachers at once. Reogh Weather Promiaod For Octo bef. The farmers are cutting and curing tobacco very nice. Messrs. G. W. Simmons and J. H. Keaton will carry some of their best tobacco to the Wins ton Fair. Messrs. Lawson brothers caught a large wild cat that weighed 20 pounds Monday night Rev. J. Bowers will preach at Union Grove the 2nd Sunday in Oct at 4 o'clock. Among those who visited Mrs. James Forest Sunday were Mrs. Vina Flippin, Misses Pearl and Trudie Ray, and Lilla Forest, Mrs. Elizabeth Simmons, Mr. | and Mrs. J. R. Forest Mr. and Mrs. Bud Smith and Mrs. Ida Forest. They / were glad indeed to find Mrs. Forest so much improved with asthma since being down with the dread ful disease for six weeks. Simmons will re turn next Saturday from Roan oke, Va., where she has been spending some time with her daughter, Mrs. Perry Napier. Steel Trestles To Bridge Accross Little Yadkin River at Dalton. At the regular monthly meet-1 ing of the County Commissioners here Monday the contract was let to the Virginia Bridge %nd Iron Co., for the erection of steel trestles to the bridge ac cross Little Yadkin river at Dalton, also for the repairing of the present steel span accross the stream. The span and trestles when completed will be about 200 or 225 feet in length. The com pany is to receive $1,470.00 for the work. The only other business worthy of mention coming before the Board at the meeting Monday was the examination and pay ing off of the official court claims for last week's term of criminal court. s The Henry County Fair. An advertisement of the Henry county fair appears elsewhere in The Reporter. This is one of the best county fairs in the coun try, and as Martinsville can be reached so easily by Stokes peo ple many of them will no doubt attend. There will be good rac ing and all the other features of a county fair. Several teachers hers who went to their schools Monday have returned and will wait until Oet 16th to open school . Rogers In Stokes. | Mr. H. H. Rogers, one of the proprietors of Leader Warehouse at Winston, recently spent .two or three weeks in Stokes visiting the farmers in the interest of his house. Mr. Rogers was in Danbury Friday and told the Re porter that he was pleasantly surprised to find such a fine corn crop in Stokes and so many good hogs; He is of the opinion that this production of home supplies is the only hope for the farmer to ever become independent Mr. Rogers reports the tobacco crop fairly good, though late, and he feels sure that the farmers will realise a good price for it this season. Oak Grove, Oct. 2.—Mr. B. H. Boyles, of King Route 2, was baptised near Olive Grove church I last Sunday, quite a large crowd present. Rev. Mr. Vipperman, of High Point, N. C., will preach at Olive Grove church the 3rd Sunday in October at 11 o'clock. Hope all who can will come out and hear him, he is a good speaker and is the former pastor of the church at that place. Mr. Ernest Gordon and sis ter Miss Gordon of Washington, D. C., spent Saturday and Sun day at R. G. Gentry's on King Route 2. Miss Emma Gentry and Mrs W. N. Boyle 3, of King Route 2, spent Saturday and Sunday with Mr. W. Y. Gordon, of German ton Route 1, they reported a nice time while there.
