Thr sen si m at Piedmont Springs opens this week with j very favorable prospects. The, l>anil will arrive next Friday from Richmond, Vn. It will lie under the direction of Mr. Her bert Tliurston and is composed of very high class musicians. The music at Piedmont last sea son was very exclusive and an , effort will he made to sustain this reputation. A good many improvements have heen made in the hotel and on the grounds , this season. Kverything will he in tip top shape for a large crowd during the summer. The cottage people are be ginning to arrive at Piedmont. Mr. A. M. Scales and family, of (ireenshoro, are occupying the McAlister cottage. Mr. I'red Watson and family and Mr.-. .1. IS. Vaughn. of Winston-Salem, are residing in the Trotter home Ms. and Mrs. 11. M. NEWS OF WESTFIELD WHEAT CROP HAS IMPROVED Earmers Einishing Up Planting To bacco Mr. Dan Inmari Loses a line Horse. Wcstlield, .June 10. —The farm ers in this section are about through planting tobacco, and from a'l accounts the largest crop in ten years has just been planted. We may expect to Isell another six-cent crop if nothing happens this fall. The wheat crop .has greatly i improved and corn is looking well in this section. The Primitive Baptists held 'their regular monthly meeting j yesterday and it was another great day for old Tom's Creek ;as the hills were fairly covered with people. They met at the creek at ten o'clock when Klder Key, after singing a hymn, baptized Mr. Sam Cain, then the crowd assembled at Un church for preaching. The young people met Sun day evening with Mis;. Craft, of con spiracy to defraud the govern tivnt in the purchase of stamps at the Williams postullice in Yadkin county, should pay the j costs of the case within the next few days, and upon arranging this, stated he would pas- sen tence, with :i proviso that the sentence should be held in abey ance from term to term so as to give Williams the opportunity to pay the fine, which under the statute, cannot he less than one thousand dollars.
