No. 2,022 FROM Ml KIKES The Importance of the Mass Meeting To Be Held Saturday. A GOOD SUGGESTION Writer Joins A\r. Jones and Dr. Neal In Urging Good Atten dance. Editor Reporter: We have read with much in terest in your last week's issue the call of ex-Sheriff Jones and Dr. Neal for a mass meeting of the citizens of our county on Jan. 11th at Danbury to consider the road question. It seems to me that such a call should inter es L every citiz n in the county. Our only object in writing about the matter is simply to further impress, if possible, upon the minds of your readers the importance of the step asked to be taken. No one man in the county can build the roads, and indeed all of us cannot do so without concert ed action; and the best wav to get such action started is in a mass meeting, where the matter can be freely and fully discussed. But let each and every one who attends the meeting go with the determination that something tangible must be' decided upon before leaving Danbury. Some plan should be mapped out upon which early action is to be taken. The idea of having such a meet ing and disbanding withoit reaching some definite conclu sion, and deciding upon some definite policy should be foreign to the thought. The time has come for action and we must act. Whatever plan or plans are adopted at this meeting may not meet with the exact approval of every one. We cannot all get exactly what we want in such a case, but we should be determin ed to la> aside all selfish interests and formulate some plan, the final result of which will mean the greatest good to the greatest number. It is not our purpose to be dictatorial and such is far from our thought in penning these lines, but we want to sug gest that one question should be finally settled at this meeting and that is whether we are to undertake the building of roads for the entire county as a whole ■ or whether the several townships ' shall undertake it separately. We join with Dr. Neal and Mr. Jones in urging a good attend ance. Especially should each township be well represented. Respectfully submitted, , JNO. W. KURFEES. Campbell. Campbell Route 1, Jan. 6. Measles and mumps are raging in our community at present, and there is lots of pneumonia and grip also. Mr. J. R. Hill, who fell from his wagon some time ago and hurt his ankle and foot very badly, is improving some, we are glad to know. Mr. W. A. Jessup will be our next Deputy Sheriff in Snow Creek township. He will suc ceed Mr. J. J. Priddy. Mr. C. D. Smith has bought a , farm from James Smith. Mr. C. C. Sheppard has bought ; a horse from G. W. Neal. Mr. J. M. Lovins is having a • fine lot of timber cut, which Se . expects to have sawed very soon ) Messrs. J. L. Smith and Fred r Smith, of Meadsws, were in . town Saturday.
