REM TO MR. OLIVER Quaker Gap Citizen Writes About the Bond Issue For Roads. OUR RESPONSIBILITY Why Can t Wo Have Decent Roads To Travel Over Like Other Counties ? Brim, March 3. Editor Reporter: I must say that 1 have great and lasting respect for our aged and wealthv minister. Rev. P. Oliver, but I am confident that the brother even at his great age does not fully realize the greatness of the subject of good roads as much as he would if he was young or even middle-aged. He talks like people did when they let their hogs run loose in the woods, and when they sent for their neighbors to come and see their big hogs at 100 pounds each, and called tobacco high at hi cents a pound: and you had to go "> miles to get to your near est neighbor's house. Brother Oliver, we are living in a progressive State. \N hat must Stokes county do? She has her equal part of the State's wealth, she has her share of the undeveloped brains, and is over loaded with muscular men, she is rich with natural resources. Shall we drag along and be ashamed to tell where we are from if we happen to be in Forsyth, our twin sister county, or in Guilford county? We can only say we hope to come up to their standard some day. We should be ashamed to say that we are not able to build good roads when farm products are selling higher than they have ever sold, and when we don't want to drive a team of horses or mules that cost less than £500.00 or $600.00. We are riding in good buggies and v.-earing good clothes. Why are we not able to have a decent road to travel over with our horses and mules? I believe that ( iod holds us responsible for the way we pull them through the mud holes which we call roads. You are away over there on the railroad and have level land to go to market, but please re member us poor devils who are a'vav over here 10, 20 and 40 miles from Winston, our nearest market, ar.d no road to get there over or anywhere else. Please GUE JS some remedy or go down r vn'ir jeans and come across v.-;fh that that has been there so l- njjr, and which these boys and g.r s need so much to make their ii-.'••s happy and to make Stokes - .unity the equal of any county in ihe Sra'f, and let us take our places beside Mecklenburg. Guil ford and Forsyth, ami let us have an inviting place for capital to invest. I paid $5,500 for the 220-acre farm I live on and I pay £24 00 tax on it in Stokes. In Guilford 1 bought a 120-acre farm for sfi,ooo and the tax is 37 there. Tae cost, of good roads is very small when vou consider the corn and fodder and wagons they save. SAND CLAY ROADS. Chronic Stomach Trouble Cured. There is nothing more discouraging than a chronic disorder of the stomach. Is it not surprising that many suffer for years with such an ailment when a permanent cure is within their reach and may be had for a trifle? ' 'About one year ago,'' says P. H. Beck, of Wakelee, Mich., "I bought a package of Chamberlain's Tablets, and since using them I have felt perfectly well. I had previously used any number of different medicines, but none of them were of any lasting benefit." For sale by all dealers.
