M T CHILTON, Clerk Superior Court- NORTH CAROLINA COUNTIES ARE PROGRESSING. Only One of the One Hundred Out of Line in health Work. Last Monday at the regular session of the Board of County Commissioners, Orange County made an appropriation of *2oo ! for the purpose of co-operating iwith the State Board of Health in establishing a public health and hookworm campaign in that county. Randolph and Davidson counties recently made similar appropriations for the same purpose This makes ninety-nine v 9!)) of the one hundred counties iin North Carolina that have [shown a sincere interest in the I welfare of their people. Human | lives and human suffering have j appealed to the commissioners |of th-:se counties above dollars and cents. The value of good citizenship has been raised above live stock, * n contradistinction to the custom existing in North I Carolina in the days gone by. (This is a most remarkable situation in the health work of lour State But f:r t*.o failure [of the A.iic / • -\rd to take f">v ).*',b!e . i c aid have been rrv rts?. *K: rery county in N.». • . I a 'i ,n is interested in it.s!. »Y 1 tions, and had co-op ;r,i.» 1 ith the Board •' Ihvith, and provided funds fo I otter the health and sanitary conditions of its people. No other state in the I'nion has reported such a marvelous awakening of its people, and it is to be hoped that at the next meeting of the Board of Com missioners of Ashe County they will reconsider their decision and thus make the counties of North Carolina unanimous in their action and attention to health and sanitary matters. Dr. C. L. Pridgen, of the Hookworm Commission of the State Board of Health, is hoping to report before long that an active health campaign has been conducted in every county in the State. This will give North Carolina her usual place as the first of all the states of the Union to accomplish this. Constipation Lured. Yadkinville, September 15. — The first mile of Rood road to be built and finished in Yadkin county has just been completed near -lonesville, this county. This road, which is being built by private sbbscription, is scheduled to run from the Yadkin river at Elkin to J. P. Howard's store near Jennings, i Iredell county, through the ! townships of Buck Shoals and Knobs. At Howard's store the road will connect with the Iredell sand clay road, giving Elkin, Joriesville, and that part of Yadkin a direct road to Charlotte, byway of Statesville and Moorosville. The road was surveyed by a competent engineer some time ago and work was begun. Those interested in the road say that when the grade is completed a modern sand clay road will be the result.
