GOV. GRAIG BUYS 0/fRALLS.
Will Spend November sth and
Oth Working The Roads In
iiitlier Buncombe Or Wake
County.
Raleigh, N. C., Oct. 18.—Gov-
Craig has already purchased
for himself a pair of overalls
and stated today that he would
spend Nov. sth and Gth working
the roads.
The Governor has not yet
decided whether he will work
on the Wake county roads or the
roads of his home county-
Buncombe. He is confidently
expecting that the people
generally will follow his example,
and that a far stride in
road building will be taken the
State over on these two days.

it Mountaineer's
Chinquepin Crop.
Mr. W. S. Parker, the
chinquepin grower of this sec
tion, left us a sample lot of fine
nuts Saturday. He informs us
that his orchard on Crooked
Creek yielded an excellent crop
this year. From his largest tree
he gathered six quarts without
completely trimming the tree. At
one trip he brought to market at
Old Fort two bushels and one
peck. The whole amount sold this
year netted $17.55, being a gain
of $4.70 over last year, notwith
standing one hog and two calves
were feeding on them daily.
Mr. J. B. Martin, of Stuart,
Va, was here a short while Sat
urday.

lo Hold Another Bond
Election ForGuod Roads.
Mt. Airy, Oct. 17.—The people
of Marsh township tried to carry
a bond election for good roads
some months ago and failed to
secure enough votes. Realizing
the wretched condition of their
roads the friends of the measure
are making a second attempt to
get the bonds voted. The election
will beheldon November 12th and
the sum of twenty-five thousand
dollars will be voted for. There
!is no township in the countv that
needs bonds worse than Marsh. It
is one of the finest sections of the
county and some of the best
farmers in the county live there.
The travel over their roads to
the railroad is heavy and the
roads get almost impassable in
the winter months, It looks like
thepeoDleare almost forced to
do something to get a change
from the present conditions.
Messrs. J. W.JKurfees, L. M.
McKenzie and H. McCiee, of
(iermanton, attended court here
this waek.
