Walnut Cove. June 29. -A
serious accident occurred on |
North Main street, near the i
residence of Dr. J. W. Neal, j
Monday afternoon when Craw
ford Tuttle, the sixteen-year-old
son of Mr. Jas. T. Tuttle, who
was riding a motor cycle, was
struck by an automobile be
longing to Dr. J. W. Slate which
was driven by his son, Ralph.
The car passed entirely over
the young man, inflicting many
painful wounds: however, it is
thought that he is not injured
seriously. The details of the
accident are meagre owing to
the fact that both the boys were
very much excited and could not
tell just how it occurred. The
automobile and the motorcycle
were both going in the same
direction and it is supposed that
the heavy dust and the noise of
the two motors prevented either
of the young men from detect
ing the danger. The motorcycle
which is the same vehicle
christened "Ford Colt" a few
weeks ago was demolished en
tirely, and i*s parts scattered
several yards in every direction.
After a very successful revival
of one week Rev. J. W. Ham
left Sundav night for New Bern
where he will conduct a similar
meeting. Possibly no more in
terest has ever been manifested
in a meeting here than at the
services held by Rev. Ham, ably
assisted by Rev. A. L. McLen
don, of Winston-Salem, and
certainly no larger crowds have
ever been attracted than attend
ed these meetings. Every night
the church was filled to its
■capacity and scores stood on the
outside eager to hear every word
of the discourse. The singing
of Prof. Lyon and his splendid
choir was a feature of the
meetings.
On account of July 4th being
on Sunday the banks here will
observe Monday, July 5, and will
be closed on that day.
