JHA hi IMFM Still Capture ' In Surry. Two deputy sheriffs of Surry j county h few days ago captured n large still in the coves ot the Blue Ridge. The still was located in Franklin township and all the surroundings indicated that it had been in operation for quite awhile. The officers hunted for it in the early part of the night and got lost. So they stopped on a bluff and waited for day and much to their surprise the still was just bp low them and only a few yards away. The plant was under a big shelter and was built in a sub stantial way, the operators evi dently thinking that they had found a place where the strong arm of the law could never reach them. Big, fat hogs were grunt ing in the lot expecting the morn ing slop, but they only grunted when their breakfast went Mowing .t! ,wn the brtuieh. SUNDAY SCHOOL ROY. Pauper Acres. Take an hutir off sometime to go over your farm and pick out thfe pauper acres. Then see to if that these acres are not put in re gular farm crops next year unless j heavily manured aiul specially ' treated. Unless this can be done, | either build them up by sowing | legumes or else put them to mak j ing timber. The farmers of-the South cannot afford to cultivate a million or two acres of land every j year which they would be richer : by never touching at all. There is considerable talk of j building an inter-urban electric i car line from Salisbury to Wins ton-Salem via Greensboro. Former | Secretary of the Treasury, Leslie : M. Shaw, is said to be very much 1 interested in the movement. i ' j Mr. Japetb Leak, of Campbell [kßoute 1, entered Bohool here yes. Tobacco Market. More tobacco was sold at the warehouses yesterday than any day this fall. There were more than .M.ODU pounds of leaf sold at an average of almost 7 cents per pound. As will be seen by the tigures. the average prige is in creasing. This increase is due to the fact that there is more good tobacco and less primings ottered for sale. Altogether tobacco is not bringing as much as it did last fall at this time, still it is bringing a fairly good price.—Winston Journal. 21st. Inactive Market. 1 received by Register of Deeds W l Slate indicate an u.v. v.pti> iml crop of iild bachelors They need ttnnning out badly .Judging from the appearance of some of them, suckers have been 'at work, while damage from " worms is also apparent.
