Airy News It has been decided by the Highway Commission of this county to recommend to the State Highway Commission the construction of a hard-surface road from this city to Pilot Moun tain. This recommendation came about as a result of a sugges tion from Commissioner Hanes, of this district. For some months people of this city and county and or Car roll county, Virginia, have been expecting the construction of a concrete road up Fancy (Jap to the state line, and this construc tion, Mr. Hanes savs. he still wants to see done, but has sug gested that he would be willing to build a concrete road from Mount Airy to Pilot Mountain and not build the concrete road to the state line at present. He does propose to regrade the Fancy (Jap road, build a concrete bridge across Lovill's creek, and make a lirst class sand-clay road to the line, all of which would be done preparatory to hard surfacing at a later date. The road ollicials of this state have promised to the V irginia people to meet them at the state line on the Fancy (lap with a good road and this proposition, according to Mr Hanes. still holds good. He says he will still keep this road on the road mm of the state as a hard sur face pro.'ect but has put the' I The Morrisett Co.i Everything From Socks to Bonnetts Easter Accessories For Women and Children Morrisett's Great Crowds, the Result of Real Merchandise, "Golden kule" Service and "Live Wire" Prices. 500 Suits, Dresses, Coats. "Live Wire Store," WINSTON-SALEM, - - NORTH CAROLINA proposition to our people to do the Pilot Mountain road work first. Along with the road to be built to Pilot Mountain the coun ty of Forsyth proposes to build a hard-surface road from Winston- Salem to the Stokes',county line, leaving about ten miles of sand clay road in Stokes county that will separate the hard-surface roads lending from Mount Airy and Winston Salem. A meeting of the Khvanis iClub of this city was held last ! Thursday night at which these | proposed changes in the road program were discussed at length. Every one still wants to see this section connected with ' the Virginia counties with a bet ter system of roads and it was pointed out to the membership that this is tht* policy also of Mr. j Hanes. and that this would be J carried out at any time the Vir- J erinia authorities want to begin ! their road work in our direction. 1 The Clul) passed a resolution endorsing the proposed changes. It is the plan of Commissioner, Hanes to get the road from; this city to Pilot Mountain under I way within the next few weeks, and he will also let contracts for the erection of the bridge across Lovill's creek and regrade and sandclay the Fancy (Jap road this spring preparatory to hard- 1 surfacing.
