gWEDNESDAY, AUG. 5. 192.1 LOCAL NEWS ITEMS Sam Riggs, T. T. Shclton, Roy Lackey, John Nicholson. Rill Nichol son and Alvin Sheppard, of the Campbell section, passed through Danbury Friday with 21 turtles which they had caught on Town Fork, near Walnut Cove. The turtles weighed lid pounds. Mrs. I>. S. Royles, owner of the Walnut Cove Motor Car Co., was a visitor here Monday. She was ac companied by her son and daughter. A large number of the friends of J. J. Stephens gathered at his home near Danbury Sunday and tendered him a surprise birthday dinner. Hugh Stovall, who has been in the hospital at Stuart, Va., for several weeks, is reported to be up and ex pects to return to his home in Stokes probably this week. Mr. Stovall * was shet through both lungs and his recovery is remarkable. Young Zack Campbell, who did the shooting, has not been allowed bond up to this time. Mrs. Rosa Covington, of Charlotte, it is visiting her mother, Mrs. M. K. s Viyers, at Meadows. She is accom » pani is! by her friend Miss Jones, also of Charlotte. Alvin I.lair and family IT moved from Meadows to Sandy Ridge this week. Miss Kula Tuttle, who has been visiting friends in Lynchburg for the past two months, has returned to her home near Walnut Cove. While in Lynchburg, Miss Tuttle was one of the guests at a house party given by Mr. and Mrs. J. N*. Marker, Jr.. of that city. Miss Josie Pepper has returned from a two week's visit to relatives at Monroe. C. I„ Carroll, who is spending some time at Piedmont Springs, was in town yesterday. Mrs. A. T. Rothrock and children, ami Mrs. George Martin, of Madison, who is her guest, visited friends here Thursday. I>. F. Tiilotson, prominent citizen of the King section, was a visitor here today. J. S. I». Pulliain, of King, was a business visitor to I 'anbury Monday. Mrs. R. L. Murphy, of Walnut live, and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Hill, of Meadows, vi-it' ll I Embury yester day. Mrs. Murphv liar qualified as executrix of the will of her husband, the late R. 1.. Murphy. The infant of Mr. and Mrs. R. R. King, which has recently been ill. is improving. C. K. Havis. of Walnut Cove, was here yesterday on business. Misses Rebecca and Loraine Stack and Mrs. George Ileasley, of Monroe, are spending a while tit Piedmont Springs. D. C. Nelson, proprietor "f the Nelson Machinery Co., of Mt. Airy, was here to lay. Will Hakor. of Meadows, was in town today. The Sheriff and his deputies are on the close look-out for evidence to convict the vandals who have been placing up-turned nails and glass on the Danbury-Walnut Cove highway, which have recently been so destruc tive to automobile tires. If caught the offenders will he prosecuted by the State Highway Commission. Wiley Malic* was here this week from Route 1. Mr. Mabe has recent ly been in quite poor health, and has had all of his teeth pulled. James 11. Kington was a visitor here this week from Madison Route 3. R. G. Hall and son, Thus, and Aiuady Sams, of Rockingham, visited V 'anbury last week. Miss iJosie Pepper has returned s from a visit of several weeks to relatives at Monroe, the family of Dr. John W. Neal. J. W. Pepper, of Christiansburg, Va., has recently been visiting at Piedmont Springs. Mr. Pepper was a resident of Danbury some -10 years ago. John 1,. King, of Greensboro, is at Piedmont Springs. The Primitive Baptists will hold their annual association at the new church at Capclla Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this week. This is the first association ever held at the church and the attendance is expect ed to be large, especially on Sunday. Communion services will be held at North View Primitive Baptist church next Sunday. The annual catalogue of the ap plachian State Normal School, Boone, North Carolina, gives the attendance from Stokes, at •>. This school trains public school teachers.
