Grabs, a veteran fruit grower of this place, had the misfor tune to lose his apple house by fire last Tuesday. Practically all ' f Mr. Grabs' wearing ap parel was burned. Danbury, N. C., Wednesday, April 13, 1927 Meeting of Ladies Missionary Society The Womans Union Mission ary Society met at the home of Mrs. H. M. Joyce Wednesday afternoon at two thirty o'clock with the president, Mrs. J. S. I Taylor, presiding. The meet i ing was opened with the song, "Jesus Shall Reign." Mrs. J. I Frank Martin read for the scripture lesson, the fifth chapter of Ephesians. "Pres ent Day Missionaries" was the topic for the afternoon. Mrs. W. J. Hackney read a splendid tmper on "Why We Should Appreciate the Missionaries." | Bible verses on the subject [of Mission work were given by each member. Mrs. H. M. Joyce spoke interestingly of several Presbyterian Mission aries who are personal friends |of hers and who are on the Mission field in China. Mrs. J. S. Taylor told of the Mission work of the Friends, especially* a Mission post in Africa, which is self-supporting. Mrs. M. (). Jones read an article on Mo ravian Missions in Alaska. A paper on the Episcopal Missions in the mountain reg ions of Western Carolina, and Tennessee, was prepared by Mrs. R. 11. Morofield and read in her absence by Mrs. N. E. Pepper. The program was con eluded with a vocal solo by Mrs. N. E. Pepper. A social half hour followed during which the hostess, as sisted by Mrs. N. E. Pepper, served refreshments. The April meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. M. O. Jones. Mrs. N*. E. Pepper and Mrs. John Taylor were ap pointed to arrange the pro gram. It Collins, who was here a few days since from the Peters Creek community, told The Reporter of a 'movement that is on foot to secure an other rural mail route from Francisco to the Peters Creek .section. This service is badlv i needed as it requires several days to get a letter to or from the community in which Mr. Collins resides.
