'■ JuWE li 1534. LOCALS Will Dunlap, of Red Shoals, was in town Monday. Willie Baker is reported ill, suffering with a mild attack oi appendicitis. C. F. Parrish, a State College poultry specialist, is in the coun ty today visiting farmers. J. E. Tho.e, field agent of the Joint Stock Land Hank of Ral eigh, was here Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. I'ctroe anJ family have moved to Moore's Springs t 0 spend the summer. H. M. Joyce went over to Snow Creek yesterday to visit his old friend J. J. Piiddy, who is quite feeble. Rev. R. W. George, of Francis co, was here Monday. Mr. George's health is good, though he is rather feeble. Percy, the young son of Mr. and Mis. W. W. Rhodes, of Peter's Creek township, is in a Stuart, Va. hospital seriously ill. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sink, Mr. and Mrs. Thad Tate, of Winston- Salem, and Miss Dorothy Tate of Lenoir, visited Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Pepper Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Grayson and family, who have managed Moore's Springs for several years, have rented the Booth residence here and are occupying the same. J. J. Booth, manager of the Danbury lighting plant, was very painfully burned Saturday by coming in contact with a live wire at the power house. His arm was burned severely. P. P. Johnson, of King, was in town Monday attending the Dem ocratic convention. Mr. Johnson has been in rather delicate health for several years, but seems to be improving. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Saunders, of Monroe, arrived Sunday. Mrs. Saunders will spend some time here visiting relatives. Mr. Saunders left Monday accompany ing their neice, Miriam Hall, to Chapel Hill, where she will i lake a special summer course at the University, including journal ism. Dr. John W. Neal, of Monroe, j was a candidate in the late pri mary in Union county for county commissioner. While Dr. Neal led quite a list of other candidates by more than 400 votes, ho did not leccive quite enough to avoid a second primary. Dr. Neal was chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Stokes coun ty, where he formerly lived, some 35 years ago. He is a brother of Dr. J. Walter Neal, of Walnut Cove. Surry Interest In Sparger Victory There was much interest here too, in the sweeping triumph of Attorney S. Gilmer Sparger, of Danbury, in the race for Stoke-' county nomination to the lower house of the state legislature Sparger, one of Mount Airy's na tive sons, rolled up 1,318 votes and a majority over the combined totals of four other Stokes can didates for the same office. The young Danbury attorney, is a brother of George W. Sparger, i Jr., of this city, was state senator from Slurry and Stokes counties in the 1933 legislature.—Mt. Airy Times. Solicitor Graves Shows Improvement J i 1 S. Porter Graves, former solic itor of this district and loner prominent in the public life of the state, showed some improvement ; from a serious illness at his home in Mt. Airy, it was learned last week. Mr. Graves, in poor health for the past year or more, be came very ill about ten days ago, but it is hoped that his condition will continue to show improve ment.— Mt. Great Crowd At Meadows i A great crowd was at Meadows i Clear Spring church Sunday, the occasion being the annual com munion. The attendance was estimated at several thousands.
