C., FEBRUARY 10, 1938. • ——————————— McNinch and Morality. I Frank R. McNinch, chairman of the federal communications commission, says the Mae West- Charlie McCarthy skit over the radio recently, was too rotten to be a mistake. As Chairman McNinch, who is also called Elder McNinch (being now a high church functionary) put it: "The admittedly objectionable character of these features is, in our opinion, attributable to the lack of proper conception of the high stand ards required for a broadcast program intended for reception in homes, schools, automobiles, religious and economic institutions, 'as well as hotels, clubs, trains and other places, reaching in the aggregate a larger number of people daily than any other means of communication and carrying its message to men, women and child ren of all ages." As Elder McNinch's religous sensibilities have recently grown delicate, so that he can be shock ed by the ribaldries of a modern worldly radio program, perhaps he may now appreciate the feelings of the political world in 1928. At that spicy time the political world was sprely disap pointed when he and Bishop Cannon refused to divulge the extent of their slush operations used to corrupt North Carolina voters and hood wink them with a whispering campaign of religious bigotry and slanderous misrepresent ation. And McNinch carried the 'State for Hoover—he did that. Defied the laws in such SANDY RIDGE DEPARTMENT : : MRS. E. M. MACCN I Sandy Ridge, Feb. 8. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Our Fine Schools. King stands first in the constellation of high schools which are creating light in Stokes. Sec ond is Walnut Cove, and now Sandy Ridge j looms large and brilliant with its student body |of more than 600, and its 17 teachers. Profes sor Macon, an educationist of ability and ef- I ficiency, finds the Sandy Ridge school equipmen ''nadequate to meet its fast growing needs. More room is urgently required. I There is no section of Stokes county that ap preciates its school more heartily and sincerph than Sandy Ridge and well it may. When the Creator's command for "Light" came echoing .down the ages, His advice was for the good of humanity. The world is safe with light whos beams bring understanding and tolerance anc 1 progress and beauty. Darkness means ignor ance and superstition and prejudice and error, which breed crime and fear and chaos. The school authorities of Stokes county are! doing their bit to make the world better and I happier. A Stokes County Freak Stokes county business man allowed to th^ !
