Kirkman of Mount Airy has announced himself a Democratic can didate for the State Senate subject to the June 24 primary. The 23rd Senatorial District of North Carolina is composed of the counties of Stokes and Surry. The privilege of furnishing" a candidate jfor the Senate alternates between Stokes and Surry. Stokes had the Senator two years ago. This year it is Surry's turn. Mr.Kirkman, who is a prominent Democrat and a successful business man and who is of the highest character and capability, will no doubt receive a strong support i n Stokes at the primary. Attended various schools in that section, graduating- from Piney Mt. School at the age of 13. Went to Spray in 1920, remaining- about a year. Enlisted in the IT. S. Navy, reaching the grade of quartermaster, was in the Asiatic fleet in China for 3 years. Visited 29 different countries while in naval service. Honorably discharged in 1926. Is now in the electrical contracting business at Spray. At the request of friends seeks congressional nomina tion will announce platform soon.
