Page Two LET TRUTH PREVAIL " : '• r- A number of people have ad vised me that an ardent support er of Mr. A. H. Gwyn for Judge has been circulating the rcpoit that I stated in a meeting of the Bar of Rockingham County that I would not be a candidate for Judge in the coming primary. This report is absolutely false and it could only be circulated for the purpose of injuring me with the voters. The following statement of Mr. H. R. Scott, President of the Rockingham County Bar who pre sided at the meeting in question and of Mr. E. H. Wrenn, Seer; tary, will show the facts: NORTH CAROLINA, ROCKINGHAM, COUNTY. We, the undersigned, President and Secretary of the Rockingha>> County Bar Association, hereb; certify the following to be true: At a regular meeting of th i Bar of Rockingham County, hel at Wentworth, N. C., on Marcl 30. 1937, Mr. P. W. Glidewe! moved that the Bar by viva voc vote say whether the Bar fo Rockingham County shall indors or recommend any member o said Bi,' 'or Judge of the n»; Dist'i t for appointment by tli Governor. This motion was car ried. A vote was taken by thosi present, on the names of Allct Gwyn and J. M. Sharpe. Then wore 23 of the 36 licensed at torneys oi' the County presen' Before the vote was taken, Mr Sharpe stated *hat psince Mr, Gwyn was absent he would no! vote and he did not. The vote showed 9 for Mr. Sharpe and 10 for Mr. Gwyn. Immediately thereafter, M r. Sharpe made a motion that the indorsement for Mr. f o i appointment be made unanimous, but stated at the time he would be a candidate for Judge in thv primaries following, at w h i c !i time the It v re(|uiiing a Judge tc be nominated and elected in tlx General Election. 11. It. SCOTT. Pres. E. H. WRENN. Sec. This Oct. 13. 1937. Inimodiatt ly after this meeting I notified the Governor that 1 was no loiter tin applicant fm the appointiiiunt out that I wouKl he a candidate in the June Pri niaiy. 1 titeo notified Mr. Owyn and Mr. Hivens that in the Juno Primary I would oppose whomso cvrr the Governor appointed. 1 then presented a petition for endoisement in the June Primary to the officials of the Bar of Rockingham County, Officers o • the County, and members of tin Democratic Executive Committee, and in August of 19ii7 I was en dorsed, with a few exceptions by all of them, as well us by hun dreds of other citizens. I desired to be eminently fair to both Mr. Owyn and Mr. PJvens. All I egk is that the truth prevail, TOR SOLICITOR j aKV *? Jgk ' , |gr ;t*Bfe' 5 " ,: -Ifc "' ' 4 *' ' : 1 • » Ralph J. Scott The 21st Judicial District is composted of Surry, Stokes, Rockingham and Caswell coonties. All of those counties except Stokes already have fttate or district officers. And in the present campaign Surry and Rockingham counties" have candidates for both judge an l solicitor. But Stokes County lias never had a state or district officer, and at this time ha only one candidate for such an office. The people throughout the district fee! that Stokes County is entitled to tb» solicitor. If nominated jat elected, Ralpfc. , County's only candidate for solicitor, has pledged himself to perform the duties of that office diligently and impartially, to the best of his ability. that the services be rewarded, and that the citizens vote as they think right.
