The.e are r.o old soldiers left, the last surviving hero of the Lost Cause having died the past year. Eleven widows, ten of theai in Class A, and one in class B, survive. Class A widows receive $150.00 twice a year, while Class B widows get $53 semi-annually. During the last two months the following Class A widows have died: Mrs. S. G. Dallas Kir by Locates At Danbury Dalies Kirby, attorney, is this week locating at Danbury for the practice of law. Mr. Kirby has fr' latently practiced at Mocksville, E\avie County. He was bom at King, Stokes county, and \v«s edu cated in the graded and high schools of Rural Hall, taking a degree in law at the University of N. C. He was licensed in 1915. He served overseas in the World War, being a member of the Slst (Wildcat) division. After the war he practiced his profes- nion for several years in Winston- Salera, later spending 3 years in Washington with the HOLC and NRA in Atlanta. Ga. When the act was decclared invalid, he was »ent (o Tennessee where he ha 3 of g]l NRA litigation in that State. Mr. Kirby expects to remove his family here as soon as he can secure quarters. At Sandy Ridge School The patrons of the excellent Sandy Ridge high school are de lighted that among the WPA pro jects announced recently by Ad- ministrator Geo. W. Coan, Jr., is one for a gymnasium and other improvements at the Sandy Ridge school, appropriating $9,096. ■Tv Established 1872. J. L. K. j Napier and N. E. Pepper. The chicken affair was arranged in the yard, where a fire burned | in a flue, but soon the rain betran so that the dinner was removed to the dining room. Here Mrs. Christian, Mrs. Beck, Mrs. Napier | and Miss Mary Lou served de-' licious eats and fine hospitality to the crowd. J After supper, adjourning to *he living room, Sergeant Mitchell! served a warrant on Sheriff Tay-' 'or charging him with failing to get all the votes in the late elec tion. Host Christian presided and Major Fulk acted as counsel for the defendant. Several wit resses were examined, whose tes timony failed to quite clear the defendant, and he was sentenced to serve two more years a c . Sheriff of Stokes County. At a 'ate hour the guests ad journed, after thanking Mr. Christian and his fine family for an evening of keen enjoyment. Germanton-Rnral Hall Road To Be Surfaced The State Highway and Public- Works Commission has let the contract for the surfacing of 3.57 miles of Route 65 from Rural Hall to Germanton. Mrs. Davis Is Honored Mrs. Margaret Wheeler Davjj, postmaster of Walnut Cove, has been elected a vice president of the North Carolina Postmasters Association. Mrs. Davis is not only one of the most efficient postmistresses of the State, but she is one of the most popular officials in the ser vice.. Two murder cases are on the docket for trial, to-wit: State vs. j Clyde Byid and State vs. Ulysses | McDonald. There are 23 liquor ( handling and drunk driving cases, assaults, 5 breaking and enter ing. 2 forcible trespass, 4 larceny, several reckless driving and one disorderly house charge. County Superintendent i J. C. Carson Returns From Chapel Hill. Superintendent of Schools J. (\ Carson leturned Tuesday niuiit after several days spent t t Chapel Hill where lie attended an in*', resting and important meeting of State school superintendents held at the University. Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. H. R. Hopkins, of Stuart. R. F. D. and Mrs. B. H. Jessup, of Lawsonville; two brothers, George Clark, of law sonville, and Ed Clark of Walnut Cove, jmd one sister, Mrs. Viola Hall, of Lawsonvillc, N*. C.
