As the time draws near for tha annual classical "Donkey Base ball" game to be played at River side Park in Danbury on the I night of the 19th, the Associated 1 Presg has delegated yours truly a a its special reporter to inter view the various subjects who, last year, and who will again this year massage the humble beast. Doc Moorefield lows that if Elizabeth will let him have the night off he will do his best to entertain "May West." Of course Doc many year a ag, practiced medicine on mules, (that is he rode on a mule to see his pa tients.) It is rumored that Doc i s not the kind of a man that "May" would like to see. This |is about all that we can say about jDoc in the newspaper. If Walter Petree can be per suaded to get out of his Packard j long enough, and if he can gel I off from going to Walnut Cove, Greensboro, and Lawsonville (boy, is he a Roaming Romeo,) and if his. back is not troubling him too much he will be taking care of the keystone sack on | ' Popeye." Walter is taking his j last Bins at romance with that | Packard. "He is the dad blamedest, "gol dingest buckaroo that ever rode across these hills of Stokes coua ty." That is the comment that ha s been made, truly, times too frequent to enumerate, about our historic old character and bad man No. 1 of Stokes county, Jessie James. Jessie will be mounted unmounted on his namesake Jessie James. Last year William Marshall spent thirty minutes between this good old earth and heaven. He came back to earth last year but the chances are that he will get to heaven this time. Cleve Lawson says, "If they can be rid I can ride them." That is what Burk Smith said last year until they put him on "Dil linger". "Dillinger didn't throw Burke down, and he didn't throw him a pop-up, he threw Burke in a line drive. Sheriff Taylor says, quote, quote, """"I rode them last year and I will do it again.""" Un quote, unquote, we hope. The Sheriff a;way a gets hi 3 man and can ride anything. Lon Sisk is not what he used to be but he says that he can and will handle any of them. Dr. DeHart, as you will remem ber from last year's game, spent thirty minutes trying to steal third base. He was finally put out in center field. Dr. says give him one good teeth and he will get home thi 3 time. Ralph Scott says that all pros pects for the game are mighty bright at the present time. Mac Caudle will bold down the hot corner if his comments are not too strong and if "Wimpy" does not unseat him. Pine Hall has looked its com munity over thoroughly and has picked as its representative the reliable and dependable Tom Preston. Now it is not denied that Tom i a reliable and depend able; but we just don't believe that be ha« had much experience with donkeys. Time will tell. , iM ■ CHART [> »' SHOWING- THE DEPRESSION jl ( IN THE SMITH FAMIL.Y |l 1 INCOME WHEN FATS| SMITH DIED WITHOUT j | ;| i! GCT THE FACTS 1 THE TIA*E TO INSURE IS NCWf W. M. FULP, Gen. Neal, on the east by the lands ">f Lula Mounce and Franklin Jame-s, on the south by the lands of Ban ner Joyce and Ena James and on the west bv the land s of Dr. J. W. Neal. This property i a more fully described by metes and bounds in the deed of trust above , mentioned, to which reference is made. " | This the 10th day of July, 1939. W. O. M'GIBONY. Trustee. R. J. SCOTT, Agent and Atty for Trustee. Powell Robertson knows that he can ride a donkey better than [Matt Simmons did last year. The Walnut Cove delegation will be further bolstered by such | outstanding players as Dr. Helsa : bc.ck, Bill Bailey, Jim Rumley. i etc. Dennis Alley, a star hurler of the Walnut Cove Softball League, [will be on the mound for one of the nines. The officials have not [yet determined who will be pitch er for the winning team. Incidentally, while we are in the midst of writing all of this, who should walk in but that great arbitrator of last year's gam?, who has agreed to serve again this year a 8 umpire, it is none other than James B. Joyce. Ex cept for the occasional comment ' that the donkeys knew more about the game than the umpire everyone seemed well satisfied I with Mr. Joyce'a work last year. Jim called, out seven donkeys at first base and they would not get 'out. RE-SALE OF REAL PROPERTY STOKES COUNTY VS. J. R. HILL AND M. A.
