PUBLISHED THURSDAYS The Da libury Reporter N. E. PEPPER, Editor and Publisher Issued Wednesdays at Danbu r y, N. C., and entered at the Danbury postoffice as second class matter, under act of Congress. * * Danbury. N. C., Oct. 24th, 1940. * * CHEAP PUBLICITY SOUGHT BY RINGLING-BARNUM The spirit of old man Barnum, whose observa tion made decades ago that "a sucker is born every minute" seems to still inspire the aggre gation touring the country under the name of Ringling-Bamum shows. This outfit evidently specializes—in its propa ganda—on country newspapers. As the proposition is in printed form, we pre sume it has also been mailed to other newspapers within the territory in which the show expects to spread its canvas. The offer says: "We send you two stories which if you will publish in your paper, and bring us the proofs with copy of your paper on opening day, we will honor the enclosed ticket for two ad ■ missions to our great and only show." As the two entrances are sold for 75 cents each, and as the advertising space at our regu lar rates would foot up $24.50, the proposition if accepted by us would make us an ideal subject of old man P. T.'s philosophy. The Ringling-Barnum management is at per fect liberty to insult the intelligence and the business integrity of the country newspaper fra ternity which is capable of producing good will and patronage for its shows. But wfe predict that the country publishers will treat its absurd proposition with all the nausea they feel for the show's yearly disappointments to the crowd—its peanuts, its painted lemonade and its stale stunts, coupled with daub, din i nd dust. i __ | Mr. Fanner-Mr Joilder-Mr. Contractor We have several thousand feet No. S Oak Flooring that is ideal for medium dwellings, tenant houses, garages and other outbuildings at the low price of $15.00 per Mas long as present stocks last.
