THURSDAY, NOV. 21, 194 ft LOCALS Mrs. Dr. W. C. Slate and niece, -Mias Mary Tilley, of Spencer, visited friends and relatives at Lawsonville this week. Mrs. Irene Slate Stoudemire, whose •death was noted in the Reporter of last week, was a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. C- Slate. Irene was born at Danbury, and the news of her untimely death was received by friends here with keenest sympathy and regret. •» • # G. H. Alford, Jr., of Atlanta, Ja., arrived today for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Haywood Alford. •• • • Mr. "and Mr*. Woodrow Taylor and son, John, of Batesburg, S. 3., were here Monday. Mr. Tay lor returned Monday afternoon to Batesburg, while Mrs. Taylor remained as overnight guest of Mrs. William McCanless, return ing to Winston-Salem Tuesday where she plana to stay until Fri * "• T ' day with Mr. and Mrs. John Me roney. •• • • Mrs. Sam Wood of Selma visit ed her mother, Mrs. N. A. Mar tin, a short while last week. Mrs. Martin accompanied Mrs. Wood home for a visit. *• » * Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Reynolds left last week for their new home in Albemarle where Mr. Reynolds is connected with Morrow Moun tain State Park. ** * * B. H. Forrest has returned aft er a month of training at Army headquarters, Knoxville, Tenn. Mr. Forrest, who is a captain in the R. O. T. C., is in the Soil Conservation service here. ** * * Angela Taylor spent last week end in Greensboro as guest of Julia Pepper, student at Woman's College. She was accompanied by Marian Fulton and Nancy Jane Helsabeck of Walnut Cove. Win 4-H Dress Awards Pleasing recognition for cloth ing club work in Stokes county has come with the receipt by County Home Agent Lila T. Pearce of an award for participa tion in the 4-H dress revue. The award is a handsome silver med al bearing the word 3 "County Dress Revue", a graceful figure in a flowing costume and the 4-H insignia in bold relief. It is thumbnail size and worn with a clasp. The awards will be presented to Opal Kington of Sandy Ridge; Nancy Pviddy of Danbury and to Velnia Necdham of Pinnacle at the time of the next meeting. Some 43 girls took part in the county revue. The State will be represented jin the national revue at the time jof the 19th National Club in Chicago in December by a girl rhosen from county winner. The trip and all other awards are giv en by the Chicago Mail Order Company for the twelfth season to develop the Bkills and know-: ledge necessary to plan and con struct suitable costumes and wea 1 them becomingly.
