C, O. Boyles, who resides on east Broad street, is treating his home to a new coat of paint. Mrs. Ralph Huggins of Lenoir is visiting relatives here. Clyde Kirby of Bowling Green, Va., is spending a short furlough with his mother, Mrs. Anne Kir by in Walnut Hills. Mrs. J. Robert Cook is confined to her ome on Broad street by ill ness. The home of Pierson Kiser on Dan River road just east of town was struck by lightning during an electrical storm Friday night. Considerable damage was done to the building. Two beds were sec afire but were quickly extinquish ed by Mr. Kiser, who sustained slight burns on one foot. Mr. and Mrs. David Calloway of Elkin were week-end visitors to relatives near here. There is noted improvement in the condition of Press Sally, who l has been quite sick at his home 1 near here. While the stork only has a light report this week he is not out of business by any mean 9. Now for the report: Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Coles, a daughter; Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Taylor, a daughter; I and Mr. and Mrs. James Apper json, a daughter, I Tisley Calloway is reported to be right sick at his home in the I Schaub's Mill section. Tucker, who recent ly underwent an operation ? >r ap pendicitis in the Stuar'., Va. Hos pital, is getting along fine. Bom to Mr and Mrs, Ernest Moore this week, a fine baby girl. Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Smith and family visited relatives at Sandy Ridge Sunday. Several from here have been at tending the revival being htld at Minnie's Chapel. Mr, and Mrs. John Martin are very ill at heir home near here. An all-day singing will be held at Peter's Creek Baptist Church Sunday. Everyone is invited to attend and take part. Picnic luncn will be on the church grounds at noontime. Angela Taylor is expected tc return to her home here today for the summer, having complete'l j the term at Salem Academy, Win , ston-Salem. King Woms»n To Head District Home Clubs 9 Mrs. J, Worth Gentry, wife of one of the most progressive youn*' farmers of the King community,! Stokes county, was elected presi dent of the sixth district Federa-1 tion of Home Demonstration Clubs at a meeting in Yadkin last week attended by around 400 wo* j men. Frances Love has accepted u position at Mayodan. The ultimate quota for the nation will be on a basis of one billion dollars per month effective in July. This sum is necessary to provide for all-out production of planes, guns, ships and munitions adequate to arm our fighting men with the tools necessary to win the war. Two Injured In Truck Crash _ Near Here Madison.—Mr. and Mrs. Will Bullins, of near Walnut Cove, j were painfully injured in a crash between the truck they were driv-' l ing and a loaded lumber truck about 9 o'clock Thursday morning here, The driver of the lumber truck, a negro, was held by officers j here, Mr. and Mrs. Bullins were tak en by ambulance to a Winston-Sa lem hospital. Ror.ald Hocutt, Direc jr of the Highway Safety Divi sion, announces today. All North Carolina chauffeur's licenses are issued for one year and expire at midnight June 30, 1942. Therefore it is urged by the Direct i- that allocations be nrade prior to that date to avoid possible delay in truck and b'u operation. Renewal of chauffer's licenses does not usually begin before Jur.e 15, but on account of the present demands on truck and bus operators, the Director of the Safety Division is sure Chauf feurs and Commercial Vehicle Fleet Owners will welcome thia extra 15 days in which to secure chauffeur's license. This is espec ially true since no extension of time it possible for securing the license under the law. Atorneys VV.
