Liteiati Looming At Lawsonville
Who knows but that in the days to
come from the Lawsonville, Stokes coun
ty, high school there shall emerge a Doi
r othy Thompson or a Walter Lipman.
I
The Lawsonville school is probably
unique in the county in having in its cur -
riculum a class in journalism. Tl is
group of bright girls and boys consists
of Virginia Coffer, Billy Morefield, Clif
ford Sheppard, Curtis Young, Lelia Nei
son and Crystal Nelson.
Its pieceptor is Mrs. Frances Marshal:,
herself an aceomplislul writer in both
prose and poetry.
There is only one way in the world to
learn to write, and that is to writ* 1
Many of the leading authors of Amerk i
got their tart by writing for the horn*
newspaper. By practice they became
adepts in the art preservative.
We predict that out of the enthusiastic
Lawsonville journalistic amateurs we
shall see some who will be able to carve
sentences that scintillate and who can
clothe their thoughts in language of
strength, meaning and beauty.
Casualty List Grows
Twenty Stokes County boys have to
date made the supreme sacrifice in the
war.
This does not take into account those
who have been reputed missing in ac
tion or wounded.
Inquiring at the local draft board re
veals that 1,425 men have been sent into
service from Stokes.
The list of casualties after nearly three
years of war is very small compared with
the numbei who are now in the armed
forces.
Yet this fact does not lessen the poig
nant grief of those who have lost their
war to its certain victorious conclu
sympathy of everybody is extended.
